The Sprouting Divot

I'm sure you're all aware that Lou Henson will return to coaching NMSU from a wheelchair this Saturday, but if not, here's an article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1958112
Can someone please remind me what the circumstances were for the block of games that Lou isn't getting credit for? Was it due to our 'lack of institutional control'? How many W's are in question? I can't recall what the story is, but I know that there's some period of his record that is basically in some sort of basketball limbo neverland. Little help?
The way I see it, with only 22 wins to reach 800, I think the NCAA owes Lou enough from the pizza incident, etc., that he should get credit for whatever wins (I assume that there were some, but I may be putting the horse before the carriage here) were accrued by NMSU during his illness. Surely if coach sonofab1tchin k's record can be untainted by his "my back hurts because my team sucks" season, the same sort of exception can be granted to Lou.
