Ok I'll take my lumps here as well. Living in the Paign I am surrounded by Cards fans.

Do you think Hendry can actually get Sosa moved??

Who do you like for Left Field??

other holes you would like to see filled?? I unfortunelty think we are going with a closer in house, so THAT should be interesting

1) Hard to say, but I tend to lean toward no.

2) Barry Bonds. :D Actually, If they signed Beltran and didn't move Sosa, I would have no problem with Beltran is C and either Patterson or Sosa in left. Of the available FAs, probably Ordonez is the most intriging.

3) Of course, closer and other bullpen help. Other than that, it appears that everything else is in place.

Rumor is that Sosa will be gone in 48hrs to the Mets for Floyd and Looper.

I just want that cancer out of the clubhouse, and Looper is better than any closing prospect we have now.

But then I REALLY hope we get Maggs for Right field.

I read that, too. That's a fine trade. It's too hard to trade "damaged" goods.

I hope they do more than Dubois in LF, Patterson in CF and Floyd in right.

I hope they 'get' to keep sammy, he is fun to watch when trying to catch a flyball. hope they don't test him, but then again maybe that is a way to get rid of him.

TOOOO much has gone on the offseason to keep sammy, comments about having his captain C stripped, his boombox destroyed, leaving during the last game. He is clubhouse cancer, and I don't envy Hendry's task on getting him out of here and getting ANYTHING of value in return.

Now that we are locking up players on our own team (just signed patterson, farnsworth, and barrett/ still need to lock up Aram and Zambrano), I really only see room for maybe one more free agent, and the Sammy deal. Pretty much the 2005 Cubs are all there right now. Good or Bad, not quite too sure. I would like to see our WHOLE pitching staff healthy for a year for starters, and maybe addtion by subtraction (Alou, Mercker, Sosa gone) would do a lot for team morale?!?!

There has been no Sosa reports here in NYC. In fact, I highly doubt the Mets are still interested. They're pursuing Carlos Delgado foremost right now.

I've heard that as well, but i have heard that there are a few other teams in the Delgado hunt. IF the Mets do not get him they still might make an offer. There has still been interest from teams like Baltimore, D.C., and the Braves are still an outside shot.

If anyone can do it, it's Hendry. The last couple of years his moves have boggled my mind.

I think the Cubs can definitely trade Sosa. I just hope the Mets aren't stupid enough to bite...

Assuming you are a Mets fan, then I hope you don;t have to suffer through hims as well. I just want him out, and have for a long time. One of the rare Sosa haters until this past season.

Still can't believe how much you spent for Pedro, hope it works out!

You definetly should grab one of the "vote for pedro" t's from Napoleon Dynamite that they sell now.

Yes, unfortunately, I'm a Mets fan.

Sosa is an overpaid, overhyped cheater.

I don't like Pedro, but I think he'll have one or two good seasons in the National League. Hopefully, the Mets will be competitive and it will make a difference.

Regarding Sosa and Baker. I heard this morning by Baker that if Sosa returns he will still have the 'C' on his uniform and be the Cubs captain! You have got to be F'ING kidding me!! Crap like this from Baker will stop me being a Cubs fan!! I mean, give me a break! Sosa does not deserver to be the captain. Half the team doesn't like him, he's "I - I - I, me - me - me" nothing about the team. This has really pissed me off something good!

Well that's the deal with Baker, we brought him in to be a "players manager". He brought us 2 winning back to back seasons, yet is flawed by letting the inmates run the asylum.

so which way do you want it?? I have a feeling that since Hendry basically created a postion for Grady Little in the organization, he is a manager on deck.

Then is we get rid of SAM-ME. We do have enough guys with good character on the team to not have the same locker room politics going on. Guys like Prior, Wood, Barrett, etc will get this team into shape.

NOW, what are your thoughts on Maggs??? For the right price, and an AMERICAN physical, I would LOVE to have that guy. I am afraid we are stuck with the Dubois/Hollandsworth plattoon. With whoever we pick up in the Sosa deal in Right. We shall see, but I stick to my guns that I have total faith in Hendry. He'll put a good club out on the field.

Crap, knew I forgot something in my last post...Mags! I would love to see him in LF. But only if healthy obviously. Give him a one year deal with heavy incentives and let him prove to us that he can play.

Martinez said he talked with Sammy Sosa, who is under contract with the Cubs but has been subject of trade rumors.

"Sammy told me it would be an honor to join me in New York," Martinez said.

Sorry Marc, but I hope it happens

::Shudders::

That would be a huge mistake for the Mets and great for the Cubbies.

Can't we just compromise and send him to the Nationals??? :)

HouseofPaign
January 24th, 2005, 10:35 AM
As long as WE get rid of him, I'll be happy to send him to D. C. and struggle. He deserves that. He is all about himself, let him be the 1 star in D.C.

I did hear on the Score today that Delgado took the Mets and Rangers off of his list, and is now most likely going to Baltimore or Florida.

There are conflicting reports. I've heard that the Mets are out, but some sources are saying they're still in the running. But the Mets are not quoted as saying they're out so I think they're still in negotiations.

Del-got-it to the fish. Is that dominoes I hear falling?? Take Sosa Mets, take him, please ;)

Well Marc, look like we BOTH got our wish. Sosa is off of the Cubs for me, and NOT on Mets for you.

Sure I would have like to get more for him, but it appears we are only going to have to pat 10mil (not bad), and the prospects might be shipped along with one or two of our own to go after Aubrey Huff from the D-Rays. That would be GREAT! Also heard Maggs is coming in for a physical. Moves are not done yet, but I like what I see happening here.

Getting rid of Sosa was a huge move for the Cubs. Now they have some damn monetary freedom.

As for the Mets, well they're treading water waiting for Spring Training to begin. I think they're done making moves.

I've heard this morning that the Cubs are close to signing Burnitz?? Dunno If I like that signing. He strkes out more than Sosa, lol. His numbers were pretty good last season, but he was playing in Colorado. Im just iffy on this one.

HouseofPaign

I heard that as well, but I don't see that as the only move. I talked to a buddy in the front office of the Iowa Cubs. He said something is happening after I expressed my concern about Burnitz....he said he couldn't comment further. After the trade goes completely through, I expect a move of some sort. Hendry is the MAN! He is NOT done yet.

Though it's late, the Cubs off-season has just begun, I think.

I think the Cubbies could pull of major upsets.
