Regardless of what the attendance will be like at this weekend's homecoming, there will be at least one guy who can't wait to return to Champaign and thats Ron Zook. After two straight road loses to Iowa and Indiana, the Illini are looking forward to playing in front of the Orange and Blue again, and with basketball cemented in everyone's minds right now, I can guarantee that Ron Zook is looking for something special to happen this Saturday. What is that special thing? Well, a win, obviously. The Illini have to do something to stop the bleeding. The defense has shown that they can only play about 3 quarters before they collapse, and the offense hasn't been able to get off the ground at all. So why should Illini fan's be optimistic? For one, the Illini are coming off their bye week and should be well rested after their 2 week breather. Penn State is coming off a tough loss at Michigan so hopefully their minds will still be in Ann Arbor and not on Champaign. Still, Penn State has shown (surprisingly to some, including myself) that they belong not only in the top of the Big Ten but in the top of the country so its going to take a big more than the usual homecoming distractions to stop the Nittany Lions.

Here's the way things are going for Illinois. The Illini, who have lost four games in a row, finally have an opportunity for exposure, courtesy of their national TV game Saturday night against No. 12 Penn State (6, ESPN2, 560-AM).
The only problem is, the game is on opposite the White Sox' World Series opener.
Zook's belief that Illinois is headed in the right direction is supported by the emergence of freshman receivers Jody Ellis (15 catches for 156 yards) and Kyle Hudson (14 for 243). Ellis is second to tailback E.B. Halsey (30 for 161) in receptions, and Hudson leads the team in receiving yards.

Looking forward to this one, mainly because night games are fun and I think it'll be close for at least a half.

I left at the end of the first quarter. I wasn't going to sit there in the cold and watch us get our a$$es handed to us.
