God bless this site. Good job to whoever is running it, whoever he is.

Okay, has anyone ever seen ESPN Classic replay the 1989 Elite Eight game of Illini/Syracuse? I can't think of any reason not to show it.

Is there any way we can write the network to petition to get that game on before this March? ESPN email, anybody?

Gotta give it up to Classic, though. Had the 1993 Illini/Michigan football game on last week where Johnny Johnson tossed the winning pass in the final seconds (following the Simeon Rice strip). Hate Michigan.

Alrighty. Later, everybody.

Go Illini!

Yep. Add it to the Illini VHS library.

Classic has shown their share of Illini-related games, but not surprisingly, they usually end with a loss on our end.

-'82 Liberty Bowl loss to Alabama.
-'89 NCAA Tourney loss to Mich.
-'98 loss to Maryland in NCAA 2nd Round (most boring game ever! Why re-air it?).
-'92 Holiday Bowl loss to Hawaii.
I'm sure they are other losses they've shown too.

In their defense, I have seen ESPN Classic show the '99 football win over Michigan in Ann Arbor where Rocky Harvey dives at the end of his late-game TD run. Loved seeing that.

But for all the crap games they show, there's never been a Flyin' Illini game other than our Final Four loss. Even the Louisville Sweet 16 game would be worth showing. Or how about the Georgia Tech regular season game? That's a classic in every sense of the word.

I think I've noticed occasionally on the Illiniboard that the Syracuse game does get some rare airtime. I'm not privy to the Classic either, so I don't really have any more concrete information for anyone.

I do have the MicronPC@clownpenis.org Bowl on tape where we slaughter UVA, for what very little that's worth. If someone wants to mail me an extra VCR and a blank tape, I'd be more than happy to dub it for you...

Classic had the awesome '93 FB game at Michigan on the other day. I have it Tivo'ed....what a great little thing that Tivo is.

If you have it, set up a wish list of "Illinois Sports" You'll get some crap, but you will also get all the ESPN Classic games.

Glad to be here, Dan. Thanks for having this site!

Anyways...I remembered 2 other ESPN Classic Illini games I've seen. And these were both wins:

-1997 b-ball regular season win over Minnesota @ Assembly Hall. Minnesota came in highly ranked, and Kevin Turner went off in the 2nd half. Not sure why this is a "classic", but it was on.

-1984 NCAA Tourney Sweet 16 win over Maryland (I think they had Len Bias then). This was on Kentucky's home floor, right before they beat us in the Elite 8. Altenberger had a pretty good game. Nice shorts.

If anyone has seen any other Illini games on Classic, let me know.

i just got the Syracuse game and the LSU game from another fan on tape. Will be glad to tape it for someone. I would like a tape of the 99 Michigan football win. And I know this is a stretch but does anyone have any game tapes of the rose bowl team? There's got to be some somehwere. even though VCR's were like $500 new at that time.

I have the '83 football win over Michigan...but it's taped on BetaMax!!! I swear! The Beta player definitely got scrapped years ago. Now I just look at the tape when I visit my folks' house, and remember back with a smile.

How's the quality on the '83 BetaMax tape?

Pretty good quality on the Beta tape when I last saw it, which was sometime around 1996.

Hell of a game. Wasn't it the first time we wore all blue football uniforms?
