Just overheard this on the radio.

Illinois on one-year probation for football recruiting violation
The NCAA placed the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on probation for one year Thursday because a booster improperly provided payments and other benefits to a football prospect who eventually enrolled at the school, the organization said....

The violations... involved an athletic booster who provided lodging, transportation and use of a vehicle and paid the prospect for work he never performed...

The committee found that the university gained a substantial advantage as a result of the improper recruitment and extra benefits provided to the student-athlete, which totaled $2,348...

Does that make us the only Big Ten football program current on probation?

Substantial advantage? Bull!!!!. I hate Ron Turner so much more right now.

To Deesgirl's question, it applies only to football.

this is just for football right, it's not for all sports? For now, there are no major sanctions against football. But really, this affects all sports. Since this is a "major" infraction, Illinois is on 5-year watch with the NCAA, and if anything happens with any sports during that time (minor or otherwise), the NCAA can come down like a sledgehammer and do serious damage to the entire athletic program.

Thats fantastic. Can I just go ahead and thank Ron Turner right now for ruining our hopes at a basketball national championship? I mean, he already killed it in football.
