both wilbon and tony said UNC deserved the #1 ranking over us, tony admitted though that he knows little about Illinois and has an east coast bias.

Carolina is a tremendous team and has had a great run the last few games, but even a die-hard UNC fan has to admit how ludacris the thought that they would jump both Kansas and IL, when UNC is not undefeated. (If we all have the same amount of losses then fine, just as when IL made the 3-to-1 jump in December.)
Good thing the polls mean so little in college bball, because this crazy talk has gained a certain resonance within the media, and will no doubt have an effect upon the next poll.

Did the Wilboner admit that he has a Northwestern bias?
I realize that my (our?) perspective certainly makes for a significant bias of my/our own, but I could honestly(?) say that I wouldn't think it unfair for UNC to jump Kansas in a poll, simply based on the relative anemia of all of their wins, particularly when looked at through the lens of their comparatively weak (and Lorenzophiliac) schedule. I know that their average SOS blows ours out of the water, but I'm of the opinion that SOS should be determined on a more sliding scale, with little difference between a #150 and #300 RPI team. I don't think that anyone (other than a certain loudmouthed, bald-headed, diarrhea-of-the-mouth-having, excitable imbecile) would disagree with the prevailing notion that UNC and Illinois are in a league of their own--Santa Clara notwithstanding.
I think that the national media is salivating at the prospect of our first loss. Despite the fact that UNC is my distant second-favorite team, I really hope that Wake blows them out of the water this Saturday to lend a little more strength to our case. I also hope Kansas finally manages to slip against Colorado this weekend as well, so we can expect a little less saber rattling out of the meat puppets.

WF will NOT blow out UNC. I wouldn't be surprised if UNC wins and at least moves into second in the polls.
Be careful what you wish for, if Kansass and UNC both lose, Puke will be #2 and I really don't need to hear more of Dookie V.

All of the media hype around UNC and the ACC is starting to making me sick. Wait, it does every year. UNC will crumble when push comes to shove in March due to all the "superstars" on that team trying to strut their stuff. I'm sick of hearing about the 90+ PPG they score too. They wouldn't get a sniff of 70 points agains us.
I will admit though they are clearly the second best team in the country and they will probably dominate the overrated (yeah, that's right...I said it) ACC this year. *#@% UNC Steve!
llinois 72 UNC 65!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geez...I really shouldn't be so bitter and spitefull while we are #1. GO ILLINI!!!!

I would be concerned that all was not right in the world if PTI was backing us. Wilbon is a self-confessed Illini-hater and Kornheiser, bless his soul, just doesn't like college sprts, particularly basketball. With that said, I really don't care for Wilbon, but I completely enjoy reading Kornheiser in the Wash Post....he has some classic stuff.
