The Illini wrestlers (0-0) are again highly ranked to start the year as they head to the loaded Las Vegas Invitational this weekend. Illinois has been knocking at the door of a National Championship ever since Mark Johnson became coach 12 years ago. He has guided Illinois to Top 12 finishes in each of the last 9 seasons including 7 top 10's. Hoping this is the year that he finally breaks through and lands the big trophy.

I am sure they are a bit dissappointed with the 6th place finish (goldless) out of 52 teams and upsets in the finals of 2 top seeded all americans, but all in all it was still a strong showing for a season opening event.

Head coach Mark Johnson said, "We didn't have a strong tournament; we didn't wrestle very well. We'll head home and get it done right away so we can fix it."

Ranking suffered after the Las Vegas Invitational with the IL wrestlers dropping from #2 to #7. The team will be competing in the always loaded Midlands Tournament thursday and friday. IL is defending its back to back team championships in the event. Good luck with the three-peat!!!!
