Grade school shooting in Connecticut

And now today we have a shooting in a Connecticut grade school.

12 dead.

Disgusting. WHY KIDS????

Those poor parents.

Cool Hand Luke Dec 14, 2012 10:43 AM

Pathetic. God bless those kids & their families.

DaytonIllini Dec 14, 2012 11:22 AM

That's really sad. Some people are just nuts. The trauma this will cause not only for the families of the children and adults lost but also for the survivors is incalculable.

Don't read if you don't want to be sick to your stomach.

Stories that an entire Kindergarten class is unaccounted for. IOW, dead. :(

Larken24 Dec 14, 2012 11:28 AM

It's extremely sad that stuff like this has been happening a lot lately, but this is beyond disguesting

illini80 Dec 14, 2012 11:31 AM

Unbelievable how any human being could do something like this. May God be with the victims and their families.

DrewD007 Dec 14, 2012 11:33 AM

All mass shootings are terrible, but the fact that these are elementary kids makes it so heart breaking.

Cool Hand Luke Dec 14, 2012 11:34 AM

All I can see in my head right now are hundreds/thousands of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends grieving uncontrollably.

This just makes me want to go home and shut all the doors and windows and sit alone in the dark for 48 hours. Unimaginable horror.

Larken24 Dec 14, 2012 11:53 AM

IDK why but this is starting to remind of chills and feelings that i had from seeing the towers on fire on 9/11

Ransom Stoddard Dec 14, 2012 12:01 PM

It's reminding me more of OKC than 9/11 for some reason, but still a very heavy heart right now.

Cool Hand Luke Dec 14, 2012 12:04 PM

Agreed, Larken. This one is getting to me. I can usually compartmentalize things and not let stories like this affect me. But this one just makes me so sad. The people in that theater didn't deserve it any more than these kids. But I can't get passed the fact it's kids. And, again, it's mostly the thought of those poor, poor parents, grandparents, etc. who are in a living hell right now.

dansaint Dec 14, 2012 01:03 PM

I really hope..although I know someone will do it (if they haven't already)...that no one goes on any rants about guns (whatever side you are on)...because it should not be about YOU right now...focus on the kids and the parents who have lost a child. Those comments can WAIT.

But of course, you know that both sides are gonna come out on this and make it all about THEM and their cause. Sickening

Agreed. I can't think of a more horrible tragedy to affect so many families, especially this close to the holidays. Are thoughts should be with the victims and families of the victims. This shouldn't turn into a platform to express any polarizing viewpoints.

:(

Illini87InClt Dec 14, 2012 01:46 PM

This is terrible. The impact on the victims' families and on the the surviving children and families will last for the rest of their lives.

Cool Hand Luke Dec 14, 2012 02:04 PM

It will impact thousands of people in varying degrees for the next x-hundred years.

One guy.

twincityillini Dec 14, 2012 02:20 PM

Incredibly sad.

trevdv Dec 14, 2012 02:44 PM

For some reason, this one affects me much more than others. I'm not sure why. This is just incredibly sad and senseless. My heart is very heavy right now. Those parents are living through pure hell.

Well, let me get everyone mad at me:

I see things like this and it makes me hopeful. Hopeful that there might come a day when those Americans who so cherish their constitutionally-mandated ability to keep and bear arms nonetheless line up to get rid of their guns, fed up at last with the pervasive, random, culturally destructive power of firearms.

Well meaning granola-chewing liberals with buttons and placards can never convince these people, government will have to make good on Charlton Heston's "cold dead hands" taunt to end the problem by state action. It must come from within.

Someday.

I don't care if you want to turn this into your anti-gun political BS, but the bolded is one of the dumbest f***ing things I've ever seen.

20 children got shot and you are hopeful. Congrats on douchebag of the year.

Cheers.

A lot of people died on the way to the peace, justice, security, health, wealth, and enlightenment we enjoy today. We learn. We're great at learning. We need to keep learning.

illinifan31 Dec 14, 2012 03:14 PM

Such an awful thing to happen...what could drive somebody to do something like this.

Also evil people will do evil things, regardless of if they have a gun. This happened in China today. http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1.../p2p-73692879/

All 300,000,000 of the legally owned ones?

It's just not even remotely feasible. You should spend your time hoping for the time we pay off our debt.
