When Self took over the team didn't he have 3 MCDAA's on the team...Griffen, Williams, Cook

When Weber took over the team that had 1 MCDAA....Brown
You are going back in posts and debates that have been already addressed. I have never said that Weber does not deserve credit for coaching the players who had played for Self. I always did and still do give him credit. He did well. But these players had all played for Self and had already been established as critical pieces in the rotation. And that is a big difference. It is not only the fact that Self recruited those players. A major psychological barrier had already been lifted and overcome. The problems with Weber started AFTER these players left and have continued ever since. In cumulative and consecutive years.

When Weber arrived at Illinois and asked about Dee and Deron etc. he said "it is THEIR team." It was already their team and Weber knew it. And the players knew it.

Weber's problem has been that. He has not been able to mold a team.. He has even self admitted that many times (no pun intended). Maybe I should have played this or that player more, maybe I should have trusted the freshmen more, maybe we should have run more, maybe I should have played deeper rotation, maybe I should have created more of an attitude of toughness, maybe I should not have listened to what people thought (I have no idea who he means... but I assume also voices in his head ).

And it is his coaching at Illinois. I have always said he is not the "right" fit here. And results at Illinois with his own players prove exactly that point. I have no doubt he will get a job either when he leaves. I just doubt it will be at Illinois' level.

As for Self, I do not know what he has to do with the conversation. He did great while he was here. I am appreciative at the program he left. And he did great at Kansas, which I could care less. But had Self stayed and had done as terrible at Illinois with his own players as Weber has done in the last 6 years, he would have found himself in the exact same predicament as Weber is right now. No doubt about that. Fortunately or unfortunately, it is something that Kansas has to deal with. Not us. We have to deal with our own coaches. Current and future.
