Tulsa star guard Jordan Clarkson (@J3Clarkson) told CBSSports that he plans to visit Missouri and Illinois - and likely take 3 more trips.

Averaged 16.5 ppm, 3.9 rpb, 2.5 apg last season. Has the same eligiblity remaining of Rice. Groce must really like him if he's recruiting another guard for the exact same time frame.

Is he a PG or SG?

Anyone see this kid play?

Interesting, another transfer who would have to sit out a year it seems. I guess you can't fault Groce for wanting to add some wings who would be ready to contribute immediately and are experienced and he has to win quickly.

Do we have room? That would drop us down to 2 scholorships. Is Groce not confident about the future recruits?

Agreed 100%- Plus player develop at different rate physically. This kid could be better than a player right out of high school in 2013. I trust Groce's ability to evaluate talent. He has a pretty good track record of winning with players that others underestimate! GO COACH AND GO ILLINI

Thanks Dan for the info!

We have room, but if he takes Clarkson then it is apparent Groce wants guys who will be ready to contribute immediately and who are proven performers.

This story is three days old, but 'IF' it is true, then at least some of the Texas schools wouldn't be in competition, as Missouri would be the change in list of schools he could transfer to. Other articles said he was CUSA player of the week four times.

Man Groce isnt messing around, maybe he feels that Parker wont come to Illinois, or something, but how many guards can you have on one team, i know he hasnt committed or anything, but getting these transfers prob hurting the chances of Nunn or Parker, maybe Hill going to decommitt, but maybe start going after some bigs, but Clarkson seems legit and Tulsa Unis are sweeeet

Jordan Clarkson's stats from this past season: http://www.tulsahurricane.com/sports....html#TEAM.IND

Played in every game, started every game, averaged 33.9 min/gm.

Field goals: (167-384) .435 --- Better than any IL guard

3-pts: (43-115) .374 --- Better than anyone on the IL roster

FTs: (134-171) .784 --- Better % than anyone except Maniscalco, shot 1 less FT than BP3

3.9 reb/gm

Fouled out once.

79 assists / 83 turnovers

16.5 ppg

From his stats, I would say a SG. He shot 0.374 from the arc and but still averaged 5.5 FT per game so he must have done some driving. I suppose there are probably some Tulsa games archived on ESPN.

I think so too. Any rumors of current players leaving? I trust Groce but I think someone else is leaving.

He looks like a "2" to me with Rice being a "3". And at least statistically he is a better player than Rice. If you can land a guy like this, how could you turn him down? He would almost certainly be our best SG in the 2013-14 season, right?

Yeah id, be on board to get this kid, but that prob takes Nunn out of consideration, with 2 scholorships left they would have to go to a big, hopefully parker and hamilton, Id take him over Landford and prob Henry, but if they are looking at him them prob someone will leave the team

Our #1 big man priority is (and should be) Gavin Schilling.

It might be more due to a judgement that Henry and Langford are better off inside than on the perimeter. If you take those guys out of the equation, we have the following returning perimeter players for the 2013-14 season:

Rice: 3
Bertrand: 3/2
Abrams: 1/2

Then we add Malcolm Hill and Jalen James (might not be ready to play immediately).

Given Groce's spread and attack offense, he is probably going to "spin down" guys (e.g. 3/4 guys play the 4) so that we have the ability to attack from four positions.

He's a 6-4 combo guard. Sounds like he really wants to transfer to a BCS school in his home state of TX but Tulsa had been blocking permission for him to talk to UT and other TX schools.

I doubt if any coach is very confident until they verbal. When it is one school against the field, the odds are always against you unless there are special circumstances. At least on the first of May.
Groce knows what it takes to win in the Big Ten. If he sees someone he thinks he can win with, and get, why wait for someone you might strike out on? Especially when they have been offered for awhile. What can Illinois do to prove they are worthy between now and November.?

im guessing malcolm hill wont be ready to contribute right away when he comes to town, maybe someone that play a few mins but not someone to rely on, if you can get a player like this, you have to take him

I'm confused at this whole "add more wings" theory, I've seen/read nothing but great things about Malcom Hill and how he can be an immediate contributor.

I think Hill can be a contributor, but he really needs to fill out to be an instant impact type in the B1G. I could see him being a 15 minute or so contributor as a freshman, a solid freshman.

We have to keep up with the Creaner. The first guy to get the next D. Wade wins!
