UI & GT are two programs that have fallen together, with about the same timing and depth. GT NCAA runner-up '03-'04 and UI in '04-05. Paul Hewitt, in some people's mind NCOY in '04 and of course BW in '05.
Both fired, however Hewitt's buyout was almost twice what BW's was.

I'm not quite as optimistic as others--looks like 7-5 ACC to me. Iowa/VaTech and Purdue/Clemson are toss-ups to me right now and I give the edge to the home team. BC will handle PSU, the Terps will beat the Kitties in a battle of mediocrity, Carolina will squeak one out against the Hoosiers, and tOSU and Duke will be perhaps the best non-conference game of the entire season.
Given IU only loses VJ3 and Roth, I think they could likely dominate UNC, and are likely the biggest lock of all the games.

UNC loses Ty Zeller, Harrison Barnes, John Henson, Kendall Marshall plus 4 other seniors from this year's team. Whatever parts they have left, plus coming in, will certainly take longer to gel than when they have to face IU, IMO.

PSU has everyone coming back, and BC only loses a backup. Both finished tied for last in their conferences with 4 conference wins, but PSU played in the tougher conference. PSU also has 3 more non-conference wins, and plays the Challenge game at home. I don't know which team might win the individual matchup comparisons, but excluding that, it seems the nod should clearly go to PSU in this game, but just by a bit.

CBS has a preview of the ACC for next year. Based on the info there, I updated my projections on the next Challenge above.

Of the 12 games, I have only picked 7, all of which are in favor of the B1G, including a complete sweep of the second day.

I think all the rest are toss-up's, and only 2 of 5 are home games for the B1G.

Nevertheless, it looks good early for us, IMO.

Gtech has everyone of consequence back from a pretty bad team.

Wasn't Glen Rice Jr., their leading scorer, kicked off the team near season's end? And yeah, they were a bad team and will be awfully young.

Yep, you're right. What's even more interesting is that he hasn't found a landing spot yet. That's going to be a pretty bad team, looks like.

I could see the B1G losing a bunch of games the first day, but then storm back for an amazing Challenge comeback on day two. Should be exciting.

I see a big advantage for the B1G this year. The toss up games are mostly at B1G arenas and I could see both Penn State and Northwestern winning their games as well, but I have to be realistic here.

Surprised that everyone seems to have Va Tech beating Iowa. Va Tech lost their entire coaching staff in a strange series of events and lost 40% of their production while Iowa loses almost nothing and seemed to turn the corner last year. I'm generally not a fan, but they seem to be a team on the rise and Va Tech in a bit of disarray. I know it is at Blacksburg, but I still will be surprised if Iowa loses.

So both teams will break the 40 point barrier?

Dunno much about VTech or who would be favored but Iowa did lose their best player to graduation - Matt Gatens

I had forgotten they are going through a coaching change. Also, Iowa put together a pretty good recruiting class as well. You have me convinced.

I have been so focused on our recruiting and coaching change that I haven't really been paying attention to anything else in the world of college hoops.

Well, I predicted almost the complete opposite. Don't like the tie, but it's better than a loss I suppose. Right, Niners/Rams?
