Imagine setting up that Intramural team...
"Hey you look pretty athletic, you ever play basketball before?" "Yeah, I was a McDonald's All-American" "Here, do this beer bong, you're officially on the team" |

I'm pretty sure intramurals require people who played collegiate ball to sit out at least a year. I know that was the rule on a team I played with at Illinois. We got someone that had played at a different college but they had not played for at least one academic year.

I hope that this means that JR has turned over a new leaf in his life. He is lucky that he isn't in prison. I wish him all the best and yes the ASU girls are second to none. I have never seen so many beautiful women as I did visiting my buddy down there.

TIMELINE OF A SUPER STAR
He declared for the 2011 NBA Draft on April 5, 2011, but went undrafted. (not too smart I) On February 22, 2012 Richmond agreed to play with the Sauk Valley Predators of the Premier Basketball League. Not exactly what he had in mind. (Jereme's brother, Justin Richmond, plays in the same league.) Then ........... Legal Trouble (Note: Legal Trouble usually comes soon after being stupid) On August 9, 2011 Richmond was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, illegal possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a handgun after he allegedly beat his seventeen year old girlfriend and threatened to shoot her. (not too smart II) On October 5, Richmond tested positive for marijuana after a random drug test [U]while on bond. (not too smart III) When the Lake County court learned of this, he was taken to jail on October 21. On December 22, Richmond was placed on court-ordered home detention, meaning that it is mandatory that he be home between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. as a bond condition. On January 23, 2012, Richmond was sentenced to 18 months probation, ordered to pay a $500 fine and court costs, and completion of 200 hours of community service, after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon. The other charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement. (Please explain that to me) ........... for he's a jolly good feeeeeeellow........ that nobody can deny. .....that nobody can deny......... that nowbody can deny . . . . .

Sure would be interesting to bump into JRich at the Chipotle near campus one day, or perhaps trolling the bars of Mill Ave. Maybe I'll invite him over for a few beers and to watch an Illini game...NOT.

Sad how often talent goes wasted. My brother coached in Peoria for awhile and said a great 8th grade bballer he had seen went missing in high school athletics. Asked that school's coach what happened. Kid stole a car the summer before his freshman year. For every kid that makes it there are numerous ones that blow the opportunity. I guess no different than some smart kid who chooses to lay on a couch rather than apply themselves. At least JR is back in college. Hope his head is on a little straighter.

If this is ASU aren't we talking 25,000+ coeds?
Call me crazy but I thought I heard somewhere that ASU offers in state tuition to Illinois residents....that might be a lie considering I haven't heard of anyone from my childhood going there. __________________ 6 stars or bust |

So where would JR likely get the $$$ for out of state tuition?
Does not make a whole lot of sense unless JR is on some sort of scholarship and/or his family is independently wealthy. __________________ If its not soaked in Orange it shall be banned!!! I wish that were true, considering I just plopped down $45k for out-of-state tuition for my grad school there.

I'm sorry - but is it for sure that Richardson is not eligible to play college ball again? I know he declared for the draft and agreed to play for that semi-pro team, but did he ever sign anything or do something concrete that would seal his fate (aside from his rap sheet)?
If he just declared and agreed to things he might still be OK. ASU's program is at a point where they may do something dramatic like this so who knows if they're reaching out to him? Also, I know Jereme can't run from himself, but he seems to have had a lot of problems on a consistent basis since he was in eighth or ninth grade. I don't know anything about his parents or his uncle, whom I think was a spokesperson for him at one time, but you never know - it might be good for him to get away from *everyone* for a while. At least then he can concentrate on just one person - himself. From what I've read his parents are professional people and it would stand to reason that they may have, in part or in full, enough money to get him started at ASU or anywhere else. Regardless, good luck to him. It's never too late to turn things around and when you think about it, my goodness, he's only, what 20? He has so much time and opportunity in front of him regardless of basketball. |

Regardless of whether JR himself is a bad influence, ASU can turn even the most chaste soul to the dark side. I graduated HS in the '90s and I have friends that are still working on their bachelor's degrees at ASU.

As to the tuition, why does it matter to any of us? He has found a way to go to school (and hopefully turn his life around). ASU would not be where I would want my troubled son/daughter to go to school, but maybe they were the only school that would accept him (he does have a record now). I don't know the circumstances of how he got to ASU, but I hope he does well. It was such a shame that he has, to this point, wasted his talents. Here is to second chances, good luck JR! |

I went to SIU-Carbondale in the late 70's. You could, and sometimes I did, party every night of the week. But there was also the opportunity, as there is at every school, to get an education if that's what you want. I agree with the idea that "place" is not what makes you succeed or fail in a general sense, but it can have an effect.
Sometimes you have to attend the School of Hard Knocks for a year or two before things become clearer. It happened to me and I finally got it. Hopefully that's what JR has learned over the past year or so and he's ready to clean up his act. I hope so. __________________ "Illinois...I'm your boy..." Dan Fogelberg ![]() |

I am not saying either way whether or not he has done anything (I have no clue), but maybe he has done something and hopefully he becomes more than a "parasite". |
