While it was pointed out Crean kept him in the loop and never promised him anything, it sure doesn't seem right to Roth that after giving all he had for 3 years of eligibility he is show the door, no matter how polite Crean was in doing so. Kind of like a 30-year employee at a plant being show the door a couple of years before he would like to retire because the plant now has younger better options for his position. Where's the loyalty?
Didn't "nice guy" Bruce Weber do the same thing to Rich Semrau?

Just- Chance for a visit, sure. Not saying he will - there's no definitive answer, sorry - but to answer your question, yeah, there's a chance. Illinois is in the mix there. Assistant coach Dustin Ford has done a terrific job maintaining that relationship and also has a good one with Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford. I wouldn't say it's likely he attends Illinois, but these things are fluid and Illinois has put itself in position to be a factor with Xavier Rathan-Mayes. But considering the past five seasons at Illinois, you can't ask for much more than that. As for the second question, Demetrius Jackson is scheduled to arrive on the Illinois campus on Thursday. So yeah, he'll be in town for longer than the football game.

Good to see that D-Jax will be here for the full 48 hours that an official visit allows

The banner? Yes.

The sellout? Not so much.

Perhaps. Hard to know for sure without being on the inside. The difference is that Crean had to crean someone to get down the the scholarship limit. Actually, he had to crean two.

When Semrau did not return, there were two open scholarships. If he was let go, it was not to get down to the scholarship limit. So, it makes one wonder if he really was creaned since an extra body on the bench would not have changed the scholarship count.

You are correct. Semerau sat down with Weber and was told that he had little chance to play unless injuries occured. So Semerau decided not to come back. It was all about playing time.

Check this thread.
There's lot's of information available.
Unfortunately, the search option doesn't give you anything for "XRM".
Start looking around August 23.

Need to get him on campus for a visit. Makes you wonder how confident they are about landing Nunn. No visit for XRM yet, Nunn is coming on alumni weekend, and now JP is suddenly interested in Illinois again. Hmmmmm......

If it was indeed Semrau's decision, I wonder why he was so bitter about it afterwards and transferred to St. Edward's University, a Division II program in Austin, Texas, to play his last year.
CJ Jackson also went through the same type of thing.

Where did you see/hear that?
All I've seen is that Illinois is continuing to recruit him, not that he's still interested in Illinois.

Semrau was bitter because he thought he was good enough to play and felt that Weber never really gave him a chance.

Looking back at the article on hq, I think there was a little spin doctoring that went on at the time.

I know that Groce has had conversations with both Smith and Sonny Parker since JP narrowed his list so atleast they are listening. We could be back in the mix if we land Jackson and XRM/Nunn. Until that happens, we aren't in the mix.

I hope you are right on that one. I just hope we can secure a commit from Jackson and be on our way up. I think if we can sign Jackson then immediately we become the odds on favorite for KBD, but if we don't and then have a poor first year then I think it will be considerably less likely that we are the favorite for him.

I am looking for a pretty big jump in play from TA, NA, and Myke Henry this year. If that happens then I think we are on the bubble and should have a great shot at KBD.

There are 3-4 schools that are "in the mix". One probably stands out from the rest.

I believe we were already off of his list, but Wes Clark, 2013 PG, apparently has committed to Mizzou.

Source told me Top 100 guard Wesley Clark is committed to Missouri. That's strong. One of summer's biggest risers.

Anytime a team such as OSU has recruited against us it has not turned out well for us in recent history. To underestimate the clout that they have would just be naive regardless of who we may sign or not sign. They have put players in the NBA fairly regularly and will continue to do so because they sign players elite players nearly every year and when they dont like this season it is because they have elite talent already on their roster.

I hope we get B Diop but if OSU and Purdue are recruiting him i would be much more concerned about OSU than Purdue.

Memories die hard. And that is very understandable.

However, there has been a rather huge change since the previous staff left town.

It does not mean much until we sign great players, but there has got to be a greater amount of optimism I would think. Till then we will have to live with a good deal of leftover sceptical thinking I guess.

Good player, now if he can just become eligible is the next BIG question. He has a lot of work to do in the classroom.
