Why not? Maybe he didn't like his UK visit, is it impossible? Or he wants to get an offer from UK really fast, and decided to use Illinois and some other schools for that. These are unlikely but possible scenarios.

We are on the same page, just looking at it differently I guess. Either way, it will take some time to get the big fish to Illinois, but not as long as it would have taken for him to get them to Ohio.
I'm sure he recruited anyone he thought he could get I just don't think there were many 5 star players that would pay much attention to the coach of Ohio and he wasn't going to spend too much time working those kids. I'm sure he knew many of them and that helped but most of the kids he presumably was spending his time on aren't Big Ten level kids, Nunn being the exception. I would assume once he took the job he set his sights higher and only continued recruiting the kids that he considered Big Ten quality in addition to starting to work on new relationships. I definitely agree that no matter how good he was he wasn't likely going to pull in top recruits on a regular basis at Ohio while he should be able to do so to Illinois.

Honestly. Do any of those scenerios sound likely? Why would he suddenly be ready to commit to us prior to his IU and Illinois visits? The last thing any high school recruit is going to do is try to show up Calipari or another top school. Even I am not that optimistic.

He was at UK's MM on Friday and will be at UI's Hoops Hysteria this weekend. Then he visits us on the 27th.

Last weekend for their Big Blue Madness (or whatever they call it), along with Cliff Alexander, Trey Lyles, and several other high profile recruits.

KBD rings a bell. Show up isnt the right word but having the chance to turn them down, maybe.

That said, KBD and lyle are completely different recruitments and i dont see lyle turning down UK if they offer. If he does itll be crean vs patino.

Hope im wrong because he is a stud, but seems were trailing behind quite a bit

+10000000! Our kids have talent. We've seen it in spurts. I just think we needed a guy who could get the most out of our kids, and I think this system will lend itself to that.

To be fair, he conceded that they were unlikely scenarios.

Good point. Even tho we have not seen much yet from Mike Shaw, there is a reasonable expectation that a JR year Shaw will be more ready to contribute than good (but not elite) freshmen.

This requires Shaw to stick around and progress...which would be good for us

KBD's comment was taken out of context. He wants to go through the process and visit top schools to see what they are about and to increase his visibility nationally. He's not out to spurn UK or any other school like the rumor says. Like Salty said, lots of false info being spread around.

Maybe so, but Coach Groce has shown the ability to make up ground quickly.
I think it's more than enough time to give us a legit chance with Lyle.

True, but those scenarios are as likely as Parker coming to Illinois all of a sudden.

I already said it is unlikely, your first question is redundant

And I didn't say 'he may be ready to commit to us'. All I'm saying is he actually might be considering us, or might be pretending considering us.

Lyle likes Groce and he's definitely considering Illinois. Groce is behind and trying to catch up and his visit on the 27th is very important in doing so. It's just that nothing has changed in the last few days that has Lyle ready to commit to us like the rumor says.

Lyle did show up on campus several times this summer to scrimmage and work out with the team. He could also come in and start at PG from Day One at Illinois which is a big sell. Does that happen at UK or IU. Not likely. Getting KBD on board goes a long way towards landing Lyle.

Dustin Ford must be working his traveling salesman job in Ohio...

Rodger Bohn ‏@rodgerbohn 6'9 2015 Carlton Bragg of Cleveland VASJ picked up offer from Illinois today, per his HS coach.Bragg had outstanding @CoachJohnLucas1 camp
I though Bragg already had an offer (added to scholarship grid on Aug. 14), but maybe it was just high interest until today.

Not that it's hugely pertinent to Illinois basketball, but I also saw that Devin Williams had narrowed his list down to tOSU, WVU, and Memphis.

Is anyone else visiting on the 27th for the O&B scrimmage, or is JG&Co going to keep it more 1-on-1 for Lyle?

22nd is the O&B Scrimmage. 27th is the exhibition against Lewis.

If we get KBD and Lyle, Groce should get a 5 year extension and a raise...And if he wins in the tournament big time, a lifetime contract for whatever money he wants.

Illinois is not first on his list and he's not waiting on offers to get visibility before he commits to Illinois and he's not favoring illinois but wanting to visit elite schools. Illinois is another school on his list honestly. He legitimately doesn't know where he wants to go. I think there might be some new players there soon as well.

Every recruit wants visibility and exposure, KBD is no different
