We've all noticed the increased use of the block I this year without the slant Illinois through it by the University and ESPN. Is this considered a prelude to our new branding or a transitional branding if you will? Thoughts from you marketing types?

That is the sense I get. I would be surprised if the block I, perhaps in some modified form, isn't part of our rebranding package.

Anyone else remember when the game clock actually had hands that revolved?

Funny how quickly technology becomes obsolete. I remember when that scoreboard looked like the latest and greatest. Now it looks as old as Wrigley's without the charm. One of the things that is important for our Athletic Dept. (one of the things I think MT brings to the table) is an outsider's perspective. A lot of our core 40,000 ticket holders never get out of C-U. They don't see what other schools are doing so they don't notice if we're up to date or not. MT has been around and is not so insular. Give him time.

Three notes on the main mockup for the new scoreboard-
1) Based upon the teams' uniforms, the stadium photo was taken during the 2008 home-opener win vs Eastern Illinois. That was the Renaissance Celebration, the first game when the new west side renovation was open. (The south horseshoe extensions -- since removed but existing back then when the photo was taken -- have been photoshopped out.) 2) The photo on the video board is Rashard Mendenhall celebrating his 79-yard touchdown run in the 2008 Rose Bowl. 3) The last time Illinois lead 37-10 at Memorial Stadium -- the score displayed on the new scoreboard -- Illinois defeated Purdue 44-10 in 2010. I think we can all agree these are good signs. Go

Has anyone given thought to how the scoreboard will affect kicking field goals at that end? Will it block the wind or cause it to swirl more than the old board did?

I can't get over how crappy our endzones look. Get it fixed, people.

It was painted on the turf as opposed to put on permanently (like the midfield logo) as they'll have a different end zone logo/script for 2014 once we get our full rebrand. I'm sure they'll touch them up before next fall though.

I'm sure they'll put in permanent endzones after the athletic department rebrand. I believe they are currently using paint in the endzones, which fades after a certain amount of time and has to be touched up.
