Ryan if this happens, wouldn't it be kinda stupid to do it right before the banquet weekend?

Notre Dame did it, as did Kansas, and Cincinnati's gonna have to do it. Its not unheard of.

I don't think there's going to be much positive coming out of that banquet anyway.

When did he say this? This was the consensus among all the beat writers, then everything started shifting in the last 24 hours.

Not sure how much I believe this since it came from a Missouri message board, but they're claiming someone put up the money for Zook's buyout. They also said Hawthorne asked for permission to talk to Missouri. Maybe that was the last straw.

On the other hand, it sure would be nice to be to have something to cheer about regarding BOTH major sports this weekend!

WDWS/News-Gazette is good for what it is... but they are so intertwined with the DIA that they are only going to report the company line until its announced other wise. If Zook is canned, don't expect Kelly/Assmussen/Tate to be the ones to break it... it will leak through other channels __________________ ![]() ...currently trying to figure out how to pay for 2 more years... |

And I don't believe anything I hear about such and such player asking to talk to Mizzou when I've only heard about it from Mizzou's board... |

If you change coaches, recruiting will inevitably take a hit. But you have to move fast to (1) compete for the better coaches available; and (2) give the new guy some chance of cobbling together some recruits.

6:30am this morning on 1400 wdws, they discussed it briefly on my way to work. And FWIW ever since the whole Jim Sheppard incident there aren't to many of the local news/radio guys who do or care what the DIA says. __________________ Take me seriously on everything i say and risk getting worked up for no reason... |

Ryan, This is alot different than he is going to be fired. I always thought that Guenther had the OK to fire him and with his donor contacts I never thought a buyout would be hard take care of. So which one is it? IS he going to be fired or what? |

The one annoying thing: If you are going to fire Zook, you should have all your ducks in a row Sunday afternoon. It is now thursday and we've lost 4 days in the competition for a new coach. The season was a failure long ago, the recruiting went south by mid-season, the players have been disgruntled for some time, the AD has to have his finger on the pulse of this dying patient and be ready for major intervention.
If you are going to pull the plug Ron Guenther, do it now! The longer you dither the worse our chances for a good hire. |

perhaps his waiting was on purpose. maybe he waited until the big fish (Brian Kelly) was out of the water. Now by waiting you only have "second tier" guys left. That tier is cheaper. and when this hire doesnt work out, RG can say "I got the best available guy". Because kelly strong and others were off the menu......

2) Ron Guenther really does want a successful football program. He doesn't know how to get there, but conspiracy theories based upon Guenther deliberately hurting the football program are a bit far fetched. |

If Curt Mallory still has a job after this season, I will go bananas. Four years later, and the man still has no idea what a secondary is supposed to do. Riding on one star player who figures it out on his own and makes you look good will not keep you around forever. Time for Mallory to get dumped, unceremoniously.
