Toddalan,

You're the one who attacked a poster on the Scout board for posting a link. What the !!!! was that about? You're the one is constantly complaining about other posters.

Stop being hypocritical.

I bet you wish we had more downstate players in this class too.

I still think there are a few unsigned possibilities out there.

Parker Mack is unsigned and not enrolled (3 * OL).

Kid from Tampa Wharton DL with an offer - unsigned (and prolly unqualified).

The 3 * MLB from Tenn ?????????

A WR from the SE with asn offer (unqualified ???).

Are we still looking - talking ? Would love to convince Mack that BT football would be a blast compared to Ivy Lg and the U of I education is all most as good.

Tough times put Zook on defensive

Once considered a master recruiter, Zook assembled a 20-player class that is ranked eighth in the Big Ten and 69th in the nation by Rivals.com.

Only six are from Illinois, and Zook acknowledged that all the dark vibes around the program left him and his scrambled staff vulnerable to negative recruiting.

''People don't have to say anything,'' said the coach, two seasons removed from what's looking like a fluke Rose Bowl trip. ''They can just take articles and put them in front of [recruits]. Obviously, you're defending your manhood. You're defending everything about you every time you go out there.''

Coach lauds signees, despite losing several high profile in-state players

Facing more negative recruiting than ever at Illinois, coach Ron Zook said he expects the class of 20 to defy expectations.

"This class is going to surprise a lot of people down the road," he said.

Still, the Illini must be smarting over losing Proviso East safety Corey Cooper, ranked No. 6 overall in the state by Rivals.com.

Some stats from 3 wide receivers. One was a walk on, one was a QB turned into wide receiver, and one was the most highly touted wide receiver in UI's history.

Player A - 147 rec.- 2,382 yards,-15 TD's

Player B - 121 rec. - 1,731 yards, - 5 TD's

Player C- 103 rec, - 1,456 yards, -12 TD's

Players- A - Walter Young-former QB
B - Arrelious Benn- 5* recruit
C - Greg Lewis- walk on

Just a comparison about receving production while at Illinois, and yes we all know about Benn not being used etc.etc.

Last year Our Football Program was ranked 94th. I think for the kind of season we had and turmoil in the Football Coaching staff, we did good in recruiting. We are not a four star school, so why should we expect any any better class?

Because we are a five star school where it counts and we'd like to be a five star school in all athletics as well.

Too bad the administration and the AD doesn't want it to be a five star school in all athletics as well. And, even academically, I would only give it four stars.

Well good - we might be able to use him. He is big and a little slow (movement wise) - but eager I'm told ! If it is the 2* kid from Wharton HS.

And ---> Parker Mack has not gone any where yet ! So hopefully we are still in his ear. He has vocalized his intentions to go to Princeton and while there - maybe play football. He was very interested in Illinois until our complete collapse this past season.

By the way we picked up a very good recruit today !

Nick Imekus (sp?) The PK from Chi area !?

Very good get. He had schollie offers elsewhere and decided to walk on for us per Rivals. Maybe we can pull another one.

And no other coach goes into a HS kids living room and finds out that other programs are cutting them down? It only happens to Illinois ok. fine.

I did not say the kids that IL signed are worthless. I said (and I will do it s-l-o-w-e-r for you) what coach anywhere would say that he signed up a bunch of worthless players? None of them would. Any coach, any organization (NCAA, NBA,NFL) is going to say the ones they got are the ones they wanted. It is not news at all to say that he thinks the players he got will defy expectations. If he doesn't think that he should never have signed them to begin with.

Yeah because that's what I said...good comprehension...that's not even the discussion in the first place. Someone most likely asked him a question about negative recruiting and he answered it honestly.

I understand what you said and I never said that you said the players we signed are worthelss so there you go again making jumps to conclusions that simply aren't there. Of course no coach at any level is going to demean the talents of their players...but I was simply stating that even though Zook said that, no one can really come out and say this class is full of worthless of kids because it isn't at all. Again, I'm not saying you are saying that but this is a solid class regardless of what Zook says.

You are just a tad early. Gotta wait until at least April for that talk. I admire your dedication and thought though.
