This is why I am worried, and I got them to win it all in my NIT bracket.

It would be almost as meaningful as the "rematch" in the ACC-BT Challenge in 2006

Haha, I'd love to see us kick some Tar Heel a$$ too

They should have stuffed Huff

Listen closely. From his office in Huff – you can call it Huff Hall; it'll always be Huff Gym to me – the ghost of Harry Combes beckons: "Come on over. The water is fine."

No, Harry, for some very complicated reasons, the UI just missed a nostalgic opportunity of grand proportions. With the Assembly Hall occupied by the marvelous Cirque du Soleil this week (seven shows), Huff stood as the only alternative for Illinois to host Stony Brook in the NIT ... as opposed to traveling to Long Island, N.Y.

Holding the No. 1 seed, the UI explored venues in Springfield, Chicago and elsewhere before receiving a memo from the NCAA that off-campus arenas would not be permitted.

Henson in 1987 said, "Normally, and this is true year after year, a team will play six excellent games, six bad games and 18 somewhere in between. As we look back on out 30 games, we haven't played hardly any bad ones. Colorado nearly got us at home, but when I looked back at the tape, it was a case of Colorado playing well, not us playing poorly."

That was before the 1987 game against Austin Peay.

I hope Weber had everyone sit down and watch the 1987 game against Austin Peay. They had a player that just stood flat-footed at the 3pt line and heaved clunkers that went in shot after shot. Anyone can beat you, and AP was not better than IL, but they sure won.

Small major all the way, not even close to a mid. Not even sure why they're in D1.

HERE IS AN ARTICLE THAT MENTIONS (JUST IN PASSING) THE POSSIBLE ELIMINATION OF THE NIT NEXT YEAR.

http://nymag.com/daily/sports/2010/0...t_the_nit.html

Just in case the only place you have seen it mentioned is in my posts!

I have a feeling the Hall won't have many students seeing as Spring Break is next week.

didn't read the link but it's probably because of the possibility of the ncaa tournament being expanded to 96 teams

YEs that is the rationale.
With dissolution of the NIT, a 96 team field makes more sense.
However, expanding to 96 with an NIT on top makes no sense.

Illinois better come prepared, because Stony Brook has a couple of good players in America East's POY, Muhammad El-Amin & Bryan Dougher. El-Amin, who is a 6'5" senior, averages 16.7 ppg, while sophomore Bryan Dougher, 6'1", averages 13.6 ppg. They also have a good rebounder in Tommy Brenton, who averages 9.8 rpg. This could be a tough game for Illinois.

Just a thought... it would be pretty cool to win the last NIT.

Not as cool as a final four, but maybe better than a first round loss in the NCAA, haha.

Was just thinking how this applies to this year. I think he'd be saying

this team will play 6 excellent minutes, 28 bad minutes and 6 somewhere in between.

Keep the NCAA at 64 + 1, keep the NIT, flush the CBI.

Please, please, please don't further dilute the NCAA tournament.

So you must be pretty happy that we'll be playing @ W Michigan next year?

Except we typically have more fans in the crowd than the home team there.

now how epic would it be if illinois won the last NIT ever! this is pretty exciting, we never got an NIT championship so getting one before it's gone would be great to our resume

It would be more epic if Illinois won the last NIT and then the first mega-expansion NCAAs.
