This storm produced a tornado (tornados?) and had the emergency sirens blaring not once but twice.

Re: Champaign - a storm approaches (pics)
Turbulant storms have been the norm of late ... in April the sirens blared on two different occasions for incoming tornados

Those previous storms riped right down the 6-pack, and snapped two trees in half. I was in the Illini Union for one of them and they made us get in the basement and wouldn't let us leave until the tornado warning was out of effect.

The storm that rolled in like a black curtain across the sky on the fist weekend of April was scary; knocked out power for a day in some parts of town, and there was reported a small tornado on Oak St. near the Assembly Hall.

Re: Champaign - a storm approaches (pics)
It sure was scary, especially in that area near Assembly Hall, as the 6-pack is. I know that there was a concert in Assembly Hall that night and they didn't even stop the show, I'm glad that no one was hurt and that there was no serious damage to the Hall.

Ah that's right, it was Ashlee Simpson
I think at that point being in the Hall was the best place to be..couldn't really go anywhere else if you were already there

It sure was Ashlee, I wasn't there, unfortunately, my girlfriend was though, and was oblivious to the storm, I suppose they didn't say anything so as not to alarm anyone.

Assembly Hall is incredibly safe because of the tunnels that run under the parking lot into Ubben Basketball Complex and Memorial Stadium. They could easily hold that many people.

Here's a few photo's of a recent storm front passing through the area. Nothing came of it, but some interesting cloud formations.

Wow Illini25
I should put out this disclaimer - I don't recommend or endorse anyone to run outside during a tornado warning; thanks |
