This should be the result - anything else makes a complete mockery of the NCAA system

LOL, i dont know if this is true, but someone on another board said that someone spotted TP down in Miami driving a Bently. Apparently some OSU players are down in Miami for a few days as this was reported on a OSU board. like i said, i dont know if this is true, but if it is, TP is the biggest idiot ever because it would be pretty obvious that something very wrong is going on if he is driving a Bently.

I always forget the Dez Bryant suspension. How does JT get off without a full year suspension (at least) for doing the same thing that Bryant did? From the NCAA perspective, I don't know how you can not equate the two and treat them differently. If anything, What JT did is worse because he is coach.

Even if not any kind of violation, it is "bad optics" as they say in politics. It is "WTF were you thinking??" as they say around the OSU football offices.

Poll: Ohioans support Tressel

What's a few broken rules between friends?

OSU lost the opportunity to act although adding the games that Tressel is suspended for is effectively a public negotiation with the NCAA to try and appease them.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Yep that is what I said. The selling of the stuff was trivial and nonsensical IMO. The lying about it was ridiculous. Stupid. The cover up is almost always worse than the crime.

I live in Columbus, and I think GHD's comment is accurate. The vast majority of OSU fans care more about winning games than honest play, ethics, etc. Most of them really don't think Tressel's lies, info withholding, or play of ineligible players is any big deal. Now, on the other hand, if it came to light that Michigan were cheating in the 90's when they dominated OSU, they would be screaming bloody murder 24/7/365.

Columbus is a good town to live in, but dealing with the Buckeye fans and the media is the biggest downside.......

On Tresselgate -

From someone who should know:

http://www.conquestchronicles.com/20...on-jim-tressel

"I just thought the world of him ... " Ray said. "I would assume he's certainly been a very positive influence on many of the players that he had. But this whole episode to me is beyond the pale. It's totally unacceptable ..."

The NCAA has not yet ruled on Tressel's transgression, and Ray emphasized that he was speaking for himself only. But on how NCAA enforcement officials might view Tressel's case, Ray said, "If I were in their position, I'd be a hanging judge.""

Oregonean
As a VP and Provost at Ohio State, Ray helped hire Tressel.

It is easy to get skeptical with big time sports today, where everything appears not to be black or white, but gray. Nice, with all the PC pressure in academia, to see someone, who apparently hasn't been neutered, and still has a set in his pants to speak out.

As a side note, I saw that one of the individuals involved in the ticket scandal at KU is getting 4 years of jail time. Didn't think the hammer would come down that hard?

CBS' Dennis Dodd and Darrin Darst argue Tressel's status.

Both figure NCAA will up Tressel's penalty to a minimum of 1 full year's suspension.

Dodd then argues OSU will fire Tressel because he is away from the team a year, and it would look bad if he were to come back.

Darst argues Tressel will be allowed back, because OSU doesn't think much of the transgressions, and they want a winner more than cleanliness.

I agree with Darst. Most Buckeye fans care more about winning games than integrity. Now, if someone else cheated them, they would cry foul. That's just the way things are in C-town.

The question I would have is if he is gone fore year, what does that mean? Is he just not coaching on game days? Is he still able to recruit? Still able to run practices?

No kidding. If they only ban his appearance on the sideline, that isn't such a big deal. If he can't have anything to do with the team for a year -- recruiting, game planning, etc...--that is a very big deal.

And a very expensive one if he continued getting paid. I assume if the NCAA hit them with that hammer, there would be a clause in the contract to terminate him, but after the O'Brien matter, who knows?

Has any coach ever been banned?
