What the heck is going on with Illinois' tennis team? That is two years in a row that a top recruit has de-committed at the last minute. Add that to the Ku Singh transfer and the Brian Alden transfer and the ridiculous turnover in this program for years now and something just isn't right.

Jesse signed today.

He may have gotten cold feet. IDK.

Anyway, it's good that he signed. He looks like an excellent prospect.

The assistant coach Asse was on at halftime of last night's basketball game and mentioned they were bringing in some (?) players in January. He of course couldn't say any more than that given they aren't enrolled yet, but good to hear.

I was expecting that they would. They have already said that Hiltzik will enroll in January, so he's one of those players.

Dancer pulls in two really great players. Two bluechip 5 star recruits. Lot of excitement about the program over at Atkins. GO ILLINI!!

Are you sure? His signing article on FI.com says he's enrolling next fall. Also they would have been able to mention his name since he's signed, Asse clearly said he couldn't talk about the January addition(s).

Hmmm. When I first read the article I thought it said he'd be enrolling in January, but now it clearly says next fall.

Either I misread it, or it changed.

The Jan additions will not be the two recent signees. THey are fall 2012's.
More depth coming though.

I think they need a clear #1 and maybe #2 for next year with Nevolo and Kalmanovich graduating and Singh transferred. I'm guessing they're looking at international players, transfers, or players who have been on the pro circuit (ala Czerwinski or Kalmanovich).

Our esteemed athletic department is on top of things as usual.

Illinois is the only tennis team in the B1G to not have their tennis schedule up yet. I have to go to other schools' sites to find out who we are playing and when.

Thanks Illinois for your outstanding work in keeping your few fans interested and updated.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother being a fan of this school's athletics. Absoblomming pathetic.

Nov. 28th. Still no schedule. I wonder when the Illinois Athletic department will stop being so incompetent and pathetic?

From my experience, FightingIllini.com is consistently fast with their site updates. Could it be that the tennis coaching staff is still finalizing the schedule?

I could probably put Illinois' schedule together if I went thru every site of the teams they usually play. Every other B1G team has had their schedule out for weeks now. Just seems very very lazy.

I checked last week and a couple other Big Ten schools didn't have theirs out yet either (?), 2 weeks ago when I asked (for me and Aobanoniji) I was told they are still waiting word on two schools for confirmation before releasing the schedule. I'll ask again if I see someone tonight at Volleyball.

Hmm, weird. I've been checking for over a month and all of the other schools had them out when I checked about 3 weeks ago. I've tried to ask them but no response besides one email that basically told me that they will do it when they are damn well ready. lol

I need them to get it out so I can get my spring schedule set, looks like the UI will have home sporting events every weekend from Jan through mid May. Of course once the MT schedule comes out I'll know for sure.

Here's a new player joining the team in January:

"Illini head coach Brad Dancer announced the addition of Farris Gosea (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom/Rougemont), who will join the Orange and Blue this winter to help the team throughout its 2012 campaign."

It says his favorite shot is "dive volley backspin dropshot" -- so he's got that going for him. Maybe he'll be the next Boris Becker.

Nice.

Have to keep expectations low when the article talks about his great personality and academic rep.

Hiltzik and Jesse will both join the Illini men's tennis squad next fall.

Illini beat Detroit, Ball St and ND this weekend. Against ND we only played 2 doubles teams and still managed to win the doubles point. Not sure what happened there? We had 6 singles players, so they had enough players available.
