He looks fast. Can anyone comment on 10.6 in the 100m? I recently read that Willie Gault ran a 10.8 in the 100m. At age 48.

Is 10.6 impressive for a HS kid?

It's about 1 second slower than the Usain Bolt. Bolt runs a 9.68 100 meter.

Based on his video, he seems to be able to accelerate very quickly. I hope we can land him before some of the bigger programs in the Southeast take notice. I also really like the fact that Armstrong is being "picky" about his college choice. He understands the type of offense he needs to be in, in order toe be successful.

For comparison, 10.74 was the best 100m in Illinois high school competition last spring. One kid broke 10.6 in 2001 (Tim Faust with a 10.49 time). Faust is now a scholarship sprinter at Ohio State and finished 7th in the B1G 100m with a time of 10.50. Darius Smith set a PR of 10.62 in 2011 and received a scholarship from the University of Houston.

Yes, 10.6 is impressive for a HS kid, though quickness matters as much as speed for a football player.

Johnny Armstrong is from that school in FLA whee we also offered 2 other of his teammates and friends.....

J. Armstrong RB/Slot
Shawn Curtis OT
Ramar Dennis DE/LB

I wouldn't be opposed to having all three come to ILLINI

wow that guy does look pretty fast on tape. I saw him run away from everybody and even some guys that look like they had a beat on him. And he truly looks like he would be perfect for this offense.

He'd be a good slot guy for sure.

Still need to get some tall guys on the outside though. coughLAQUONTREADWELLcough

So if you’re wondering when [Reggie] Spearman may commit, patience may be a virtue. Just know this: He’s serious about Illinois, which offered him two weeks ago after he attended an Illini camp.

“It’s a school I’m really considering. It’s a Big Ten school, and it’s my home school – and that’s a big thing for me,” Spearman said. “It was exciting, man (to get the offer). It was much wanted and waited for.

“I’ve been there three times and got to know the coaches and how I fit in their plans … It’s a great feeling."

Speaman would be a great fit for us on defense....especially with all the talent we have now and in the future up front to protect him and let him run and make plays

I think he may be a decent fit at the LEO spot. Give him a chance to play both LB and DE. He has really good pass-rush moves, but I wouldn't project him as a full-time DE. Could be a good fit there.

well as he stands now at 6'1 218 lbs i dn if he could match up well at LEO end...but now if he grows a lil and gets to 6'2 and is around 230 he could be an excellent size for LB or a small rush end

I always thought he was at least 6'2. Maybe he's actually 6'1 and all the guys listed at 6'1 are way shorter. Football programs really need to stop lying about their players' heights.

I do too, but there's more noise at an amateur golf tournament than at a Northwestern game. Hell most of the noise is Fitz going buckwild on the sidelines

Spearman is about 6'1. I just watched some USA games and I think he is going to be a stud at LB in college. I'd play him at WILL so you can also take advantage of his blitzing abilty. Hopefully he commits soon.

Also, I didn't know this until the other day but Kyle Meadows has the Illini in his top 3. That would be a huge pickup, and based on a couple of articles I read, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is the next commit. Get Meadows and Finley and you wouldn't even have to flip any of the in-state guys (Though I'm still hoping for a few...namely Pocic and LTT).

And one more unrelated note, and this is old, but I didn't like to see Darron Lee go to OSU. I had felt he was definitely under the radar and a 4 star type of ATH who come to Champaign and be a great S on a top defense. I was hoping OSU would let him fall through the cracks, but obviously it didn't happen. Great ATH though. He's going to be a baller.
