get the LB spearman a offer and get him committed to us....the faster we get in state guys committed to us the better it looks for us to continue that trend to getting guys like Issacs, Tully Tillman, Pocic, Bailey

I agree! Get this kid an offer and have him commit and turn him into a recruiter for us. He can pitch the Illini to all the Chicago kids.

The in-state OL class for this year has guys like: Logan Tuley-Tillman Ethan Pocic Kyle Bosch Colin Goebel Colin McGovern Blake King Kijana Evans Tate Briggs Tyler Lancaster Andrew Geers We should be able to mostly fill up our quota with in-state guys at those positions. Let's see what Butkus can do. |

Anyone know why we are not going hard after Colin McGovern (6-7 280lb). Bret Bielema visited him at Lincoln Way West yesterday (Hopefully, he didn't give Colin the "Special Badger Handshake") and Brady Hoke was at LWW to see him today.

A team to watch out for is Iowa. Iowa typically does very well grabbing OL around the Lincoln-Way area. They have only missed out on 1 impact OL (2012 Ward (Providence) going to Northwester) in that area in the last 5-10 years. |

6-7, 280 as a hs jr, by this time next year he will be 6-7, 305, and after a redshirt frosh year, he will be 6-7, 330.
Are these boys drinking muscle milk like water and eating T-bones 3 times a day? In the mid 1970's, a decent size for most high school tackles was 6-2, 220. |

One thing to keep an eye on for 2013 is the fact that the Illinois State Legislators have been looking closely at all the "waivers" they pass out to the State universities. With the fact that the DIA has to "reimburse" the university for the FB scholarships, the "out of state" fee of approx. $14,000 per year can really add up considering that we have rough 40 out of staters. In the past the DIA got waivers for all the out of staters.
If these "waivers" don't get extended it could really put pressure to lock down the state even more. It will be interesting to see if we move closer to more of an in state recruiting base and how that effects our on field performance. No wonder MT said on his first day we want to be "King of Illinois and King of Chicago". Interesting times. |

Not a good thing to hear. It's great to lock up the state, but it's just not possible to compete with restrictions like this.

It's not a restriction, it's the product of operating in a state that has no money. The DIA will either have to figure out where to come up with another half million $ or the team will be forced to recruit more local kids.

Yes, it is a restriction. What happens if there is not enough talented players each year from the state to compete? What if TB cannot lock down the states best players. I know these are "what ifs" but these questions have to be addressed.
