Rumor is that the coaching staff was pleasantly surprised with his size. Most guys exaggerate there size by adding a couple inches and maybe a few pounds. His numbers are not exaggerated. The kid is big and has quick feet. A little surprising to see a lineman his size that also plays (not just on the team, but plays) on the high school basketball and baseball teams. And, he is smart. I don't know about strength and speed but many other positives. Last edited by blmillini; Apr 27, 2012 at 09:48 AM. |

From the interview sounds like Bailey is the 2013 Juice.
Hopefully he can put more touch on the ball. If we and Iowa and are U of I and Minn and Mich are UM they can share NU. |

I would say Bailey is kind of a cross between Nate and Juice throwing the ball. Bailey seems to be between NS and JW in terms of arm strength, with better touch than JW on the short routes. All are good runners, with Bailey being thicker than NS.

Haha, ask any Big Ten fan base besides Iowa or Minnesota what those abbreviations mean and they'll say Illinois and Michigan. I go to Iowa, and it's hilarious to see the native Iowans get all bent out of shape when kids from Illinois call the University of Illinois, "U of I."

Not only in SOP but also hopefully he can be the highly rated recruit who is the pied piper to get other highly rated recruits to U of I. Fingers crossed that Bailey starts a roll of other great prospects in O&B |

The staff can now put their attention on Keeler, Pocic, Augusta, and Mosely for in-state guys. I think Ty Isaac will go to a pro-style. We may have a chance with Treadwell, though. Am I missing anyone?

Any idea if we still have a chance with a guy like Jalen Banks? Seems like we need a handful of solid CB/S types to step in and play immediately? |

That's a good question. TB said when he was 1st hired he basically likes to have a QB in each class. So, in 2013 we have NS and MO as seniors, ROT as a junior, Haslett as a soph and Bailey as a Freshmen. That would give us our 5 QB's and then we will probably take 2 in the 2014 class. We will more than likely have to take 2 QBs in 2013 or 2014. My guess is it comes down to a numbers crunch at other positions on if we take Porter or not.

Realistically, how many do you think we can get out of the remaining top in state talent Ryan? |

I just hope what we expect- a lot of noticeability with Bailey now committed to Illinois- that it actually pays of and these talented players instate and in Ohio (beckman ties) realize Illinois is a place to go and build this program

Even guys who are committed elsewhere now will be fair game until Signing Day. A lot of recruits are waiting to see how we do on the field it seems, so I would not really worry about recruiting until we get the season going. Obviously, getting that big name QB was the #01 priority. The rest will fall into place if we have a good season. |

It'll be interesting to see what happens with some of the other 4 star QBs in the midwest, with the quaterback spots at Big10 schools seeming to fill up pretty quick now. Roback and Chapman come to mind. Wonder if we could get Chapman as an athlete prospect. He'll probably have good offers to play QB though.
The excitement in the recruiting thread over the past 24 hours has been great. It was getting kind of dull until Bailey committed. |

Forgot about Banks. He would be a great pickup, but I haven't heard much from him. He seems to favor Wisky
