I was getting that same sort of vibe.

I will be very interested to see the recruiting strategy of Beckman and the staff. Will they be "closers" like Zook getting a lot of guys late? Will they be able to secure some bigger players earlier? Can he get guys to flip late? etc etc

Considering the circumstances they did a damn good job of closing late last year and getting a couple of guys to flip.

Do you guys think that Bailey will redshirt? When he comes in Nate will be a senior and Reilly a junior, so it'd seem to be almost be wasting a year on very few snaps, unless he is just a freak who's good enough to start over those two (which I would doubt, but who knows). Then he'd have his RS Freshmen year backing up/splitting time with Reilly and then take the reigns for 2-3 years.

Nate redshirted in 2009. If Bailey is the same stand-up, team-first guy like it sounds he is, I could see him willing to redshirt the 2013 season.

As of RIGHT NOW...yes. Obviously things change. Injuries, transfers etc. Perfect scenario is probably Bailey redshirts Nate's senior year then get some snaps as a RS-freshmen with Reilly during his senior year then takes the reigns as a RS-soph.

Zook also liked Illinois’ chances of landing Bolingbrook quarterback Aaron Bailey, who made a commitment Thursday.

“That quarterback committed to me last fall,” Zook said. “He’s a good player.”
Silent commit back then? Really?

He might've had several silent commits when we were 6-0 and then he crapped the bed and lost 6 in a row before being canned.

It seems to me like the agility is really being emphasized on the O-Line (Chadwell and DiLauro both need weight but move really well in space) so I'm not sure he gets this offer.
You might be right. I would really like to see what a good strength and conditioning coach could do with him because I think there is considerable room for improvement in those areas. Side note, his dad was a kicker at Illinois State.

Chadwell and DiLauro will both hands down redshirt and bulk up in the weight room before they are even in consideration for competing for playing time

both taller guys at 6'5 get both of them aroun 290 300lbs and we got some pretty athletic OTs

but then again If we get Pocic and or Keeler these guys have the height and weight already to play Pocic is 6'6 290 Keeler 6'7 275 (both will probably add 10lbs or so from JR to SR year

I talked to Jack tonight. He said he is visiting Wisconsin tomorrow. I aked him if he heard about Bailey committing, and his response was, "Yeah, that's great...good for him for finding a home right here in Illinois."

Basically old tradition from the Big 8 where everyone was _U (OU, KU, MU, etc)
I never understood that tradition. As you say, they go by NU, KU, OU, yet they still call the school University of Nebraska, Kansas etc.

it is weird

My daughter graduates from Indiana University next Sat, and it is IU for that reason, it is officially Indiana University. How & why schools in the B12 (B8) started the reversing of the letters is beyond me.

What, the fact that they're Big 12 originals and therefore naturally screwy isn't enough of a reason?

I think he likes Illinois, but some heavy hitters are getting involved. Tennessee and Wisconsin offered him recently..

I am so excited Bailey is coming to Illinois.

The new pick up QB Aaron Bailey from Bolingbrook High School is a perfect answer to the spread attack.

Bailey passed for 1039 yards this year getting 10 Touchdowns. This is on a team that runs the ball 85% of the time, In the run category he rushed for 1983 yards and 30 Touchdowns.

That is 3022 total yards and 40 Touchdowns in a season by one player.

I have watched this kid play and he has a cannon for a arm, his ability to scramble out side of the pocket rolling opposite field and throwing a 50 yard strike down field is uncanny.

Let's just group the Wisconsin and Michigan fan bases together and say that they are weaseling potential recruits, since they are both from the mustelid or weasel family.

So now that we have Bailey in the fold due our chances with a guy like Treadwell or Ty Issacs go up? How do the two feel about playing at Illinois? Does anyone know?

The 6-foot-7, 285-pound Keeler hopes to make a decision late in the summer, before his senior season starts. He admits there’s a lot left to consider, but for the time being, he lists Nebraska, Illinois and Wisconsin (in no particular order) as his top three schools. The in-state Illini have made an impression by “showing a ton of interest” and coming with a simple message, Keeler said.

Even though it could hurt us on the field, the fact that we have like 4 tackles and Wisconsin has 10 or 11 is potentially helpful in recruiting.
