Looks like a great pick up. Look forward to watching him, and will be rooting for him. I'm embarrassed for the guy interviewing him though.

That was an embarrassing interview. McColley should apologize to the guy.

McColley maybe the worst video interview I have ever seen with a recruit. Insulting a recruit and cursing infront of his mother.

Excited about this commit! Hopefully he can play his way onto the court during his time here. Will be good to have a pure shooter to hit shots out of timeouts, off screens, etc. Welcome, Mike!

Way to be a complete douchebag McColley. They shouldn't let you into Memorial Stadium again after the way you treated a future player.

Love the pickup! A walk on that can contribute? Excellent. We seemingly have a kid that saw an opportunity to be part of a big time program, play close to home, have his friends and family around him, and hopefully contribute to a memorable Illini team at some point.

I love this from the kid's perspective, and the school's! Welcome to the family, Mike!

great pickup

Believe it or not, I am a senior in high school and friends with Mike. I had the opportunity to go to a prestigious sports leadership camp at the JKB Ranch in Colorado with him and other Illinois student athletes.

Anyways this guy is an incredible addition as a player and as a person. I know first hand he has great character and he will be great in the locker room, in the classroom, and always competing. Believe me he is not the type to just sit around in his walk on spot, he wants to play and will work as hard as he can until he gets some playing time...and heres to hoping he does!

congrats to mike, as I posted on his facebook wall yesterday its a dream come true to see him playing for my favorite Illini

If you have the opportunity, I think a lot of Illini fans would like you to tell Mike that we apologize to Mike's mom for the interview language. If you can pass that along, it would be a nice gesture. Thanks.

Welcome to the board, feel free to post and contribute if you have some free time and so we can follow Mike's career here at Illinois.

Please keep us updated on his senior season and how it is going if you could, would be much appreciated.

I would like to second that. This interview is not representative of the University or its fanbase.

no worries

yeah I already texted him about it...I think it goes to show that he left offers from smaller schools on the table and came in as a walkon. He really wanted to go to Illinois and is willing to work harder than anybody else to make on the highest level

Sadly this guy has been around interviewing the players for awhile.. And he doesn't know what the heck he's doing.. But he's never been quite that obnoxious before.

Was that an interview or was the guy cross-examining him? I had to stop watching it. Talk about unprofessional - who is this McColley guy?

McColley typically does a good job of getting interviews with players and recruits. He has an unorthodoxed way, but this is over the top. Very disappointing interview from him.

what a tool... you could tell the kid was thrilled an to rain on his parade with dumba$$ questions trying to make himself laugh was horrific at best.. cant wait till he interviews j.parker

the positive- Mike seemed to handle it with class an maturity..this guy needs to be told to stop trying to be boers and bernstein who are douchbags but they are not even tools to an interviewees face..

I think you guys are reaching a bit on this one. Sure, Rob shouldn't have used the F-bomb, but you couldn't see Rob's face during the interview. He was probably smiling when he said that, making it obvious he was not being serious. (I know Rob, and I'd bet money that was what happened.) Just as things can sometimes get lost in translation in a conversation on a web forum, so too can it happen when you are watching only one side of a taped interview.

I saw nothing wrong with the rest of the interview.

Exactly...but I'm not sure how they would control an unprofessional hack running around with a recorder. Never been a fan of McColley's holier than thou posts/comments towards others in the past, and certainly feel as if he has embarrased our program now based on this pathetic interview.

Whether or not he and other buffoons like him realize it or not, the way they treat our potential student athletes and their families greatly impacts the recruit and families view of our program and institution. This was shameful.

this may or not be true..however, you can tell from mikes face he was serious an it was not a joking around interview.he probably does not get interviewed everyday say like Jarbi parker does.. Not to mention, he needed to realize that the kid was serious and adjust. It was mikes day, proud moment for him and his family.

he has ability, schollly offers from schools, he is super competitive we are told , elite shooter from ipreps, and the last thing he wants to do on his big day is be compared to the ultimate walk-on Berdini (spelling?) when by all accounts he was recruited by the staff, watched, and evaluated.. Rob had his mind set to try to be funny an it sucked. period end of story. i dont care if he was wearing a clowns mask, he made a clown of himself to a kid who was thrilled to be an illini the freaking day he committed. zero common sense

You are wrong. The whole interview was insulting and demeaning. I don't care what kind of expression he had on his face. The references to Berandini were totally out of line as well. The whole interview was cringe worthy.

If he has a press pass, it should be removed by the school.

It was still inappropriate. Not only were his parents right there, but I don't think it's necessary to talk in that manner as a professional ADULT to a recruit.
