Brandon Miller Named Special Assistant to the Head Coach

Illinois head basketball coach John Groce announced on Monday that Brandon Miller will serve as special assistant to the head coach, continuing in a role he recently undertook on the Fighting Illini staff. Miller brings eight years of experience to Champaign, six of which came at Ohio State.

"Brandon and I worked together for four years during our time at Xavier and Ohio State, so I know firsthand what a tremendous person and basketball coach he is," Groce said. "He had an outstanding career as a player at Butler and beyond the points, rebounds and assists, he was known for his high basketball IQ, leadership skills and strong character. Those traits carried over into his coaching, and his passion and love for the game of basketball have led him back to this profession after a brief time in the corporate world. Brandon shares the vision I have for this program and he will work relentlessly to help us achieve the goals we have for the future of Fighting Illini basketball."

Brandon Miller is going to be a huge addition in that position. Not often you get one of the rising stars in the coaching fraternity to fill an administrative position.

Maybe this explains the administrative position. Here's an article about Miller when he resigned from tOSU last summer.

Quote:
The life dictated by a career in college coaching slowly took its toll on Brandon Miller as the Ohio State men's basketball assistant watched his wife and growing young sons do more things without him. . .

"I look at my life and the first thing that I want to accomplish when it's all said and done is I want to be a very good husband and I want to be a terrific father, and my next opportunity in terms of what I want to do is going to be outside of basketball and it's going to be in a situation where I can have more balance in my life."

I've heard a lot of great things about Brandon Miller. Apparently he has a fantastic basketball mind and I'm sure he'll have a huge impact in regards to scouting and overall strategy. Its great that we have 5 former point guards on our staff.

And it's no surprise that PG is the focal point of their system and why they're choosy about who to bring in to play that position.

Parham Joins Illini

Groce completes staff with hire of former Illinois State assistant

University of Illinois head coach John Groce announced Thursday the hiring of Paris Parham as assistant coach. A Chicago native, Parham comes to Illinois after five years as an assistant at Illinois State and is a 17-year veteran of the coaching profession.

"I am excited to welcome Paris Parham to our staff," Groce said. "I was impressed with what he helped Illinois State accomplish during his time there and feel he will hit the ground running and help us immediately in the pursuit of our goals. He has worked hard on the recruiting trail in the city of Chicago, as well as throughout the state of Illinois and the Midwest. Paris has many qualities that make him a successful coach, but what impressed me the most is the relationships he builds with the players. He is a great role model for young men and will be an outstanding ambassador for our program."

Would Nic Moore be on the roster if we hired Parham the first time?

Nope. Illinois was the favorite to land Moore until Jankovich landed at SMU. He was very close to his coach and liked the opportunity that opened up at SMU.

That is probably true, brooks. Once Jankovich landed at a future Big East school, Moore was going to follow him.

However, they may be close, but Moore had already indicated that he was leaving ISU well before Jankovich mentioned with any other jobs. He was not going back to ISU even if Jankovich stayed there.

Sad to say but if Paris was hired the first time Nic Moore would in fact be in Blue in Orange but because at the time Parham was still just a candidate Nic Moore had make a choice for what he knew at the time was certain.

I wish Nic nothing but Good Luck he was a good up pg will turn even more heads in the Big East. by the way they should ask J. Turner why is he really leaving SMU already? He did want to compete at that position!

This statement seems like it's from a "spurned" Nic Moore "camp". He had no signable offer from Illinois just high interest. No offers either from ND or Purdue, just interest.
I can't believe that PP would be professing this type of "fact" this early in his coaching career at Illinois.
I wish Nic Moore well at SMU and hope too he tears up the BEAST.

Completely untrue. Nic would be at Illinois only if Jankovich had stayed at ISU. He wanted to play in a top conference and things happened to work out perfectly for him with Jankovich heading to SMU which will now be in the Big East.

Very impressive. Sitting by Coach Boeheim and some of the best players in the NBA. I would show that photo off more often if I was Coach Groce.
