John Groce talks the non-conference schedule-
This upcoming season Illinois will play 14 nonconference games- 7 at home. (Last season UI had 13 noncons- 8 at home) Illinois' non-conference road games- # at Hawaii # 3 games in 3 days at the Maui Invitational (all 8 teams in Maui play 3 games in 3 days) # at Gonzaga # Mizzou in St. Louis # United Center game (Auburn) Next season Illinois is on track to have 13 nonconference games- only 5 at home. Said Illinois has played the least amount of home nonconference games compared to other Big Ten teams in the past 5 years. Would definately like to have more non-conference home games sooner than later, but sounds like their hands are tied via some contracts that were signed in the past. This season's overall schedule will be tough ("It's very very very aggressive" is the phrase he used). John Groce: "Looking at [the schedule like] the glass is half-full, we're going to be challenged at a really high level, we're going to find out a lot about our team pretty quickly." 9:30- Sports Talk 5-15-12 |

Maui Invitational Past Experience
Just found out the in-laws are taking the family with them to Kaanapali Beach over Thanksgiving week. As I am sure you all are aware, that happens to be the week of the Maui Invitational. I am interested in attending a game or two while we are there, but I thought I would ask all of you about past experience concerning the tourney. The MI website says that game tickets will only be sold as part of travel packages. Does anyone know if they open up tickets to the general public at any point? Also, what are the game times over there? Just curious. I don't think I can get my wife off of the beach for a game, but her dad may be interested in atteding with the kids and I. Also, any idea on the cost of tickets?
Thanks for your help. __________________ The one and only........... ![]() |

This year there will be 4 games each day Nov 19-21. Last year, tip times were anywhere from 9:00am - 7:00pm local Hawaiian time. Last edited by Dan; Jun 18, 2012 at 11:42 AM. |

Dan, have you heard any word which exempt tourney we committed to for 2013? I had heard it was Atlantis (which has a stronger field than Maui), but not sure if true.B

Can't wait to see how the schedule turns out. The in-laws are footing the bill for a family vacation to Maui over the Turkey Day Holiday. Going to try to take in a few games.

Beating Butler, Marquette, and North Carolina would be a dream scenario.

Carolina will almost certainly get Chaminade, as the putative top seed.

Did Groce leave out the UNLV game? They are playing in Vegas this year, correct? Or am I crazy? I actually have a work conference out there in early December, so I'm hoping to extend the trip to catch that game. |
