I think Judson might have a pretty good shot to get the ISU job.
I think ISU would target Chris Collins. I don't think he would take it though.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the stones for old Chrissie. Wasn't considered for the handful of decent jobs this year and his best offer is Illinois State.

I would think ISU should go after Dan Muller. Former ISU player, current assistant at Vanderbilt under former ISU coach Kevin Stallings. He may be aiming higher though.

I think ISU would be a great job for him.

A solid team coming back, they have a pretty good arena from what I hear.

I mean unless he has heart set on Northwestern, and he knows they want him back. It's not likely that he would get a high major job straight from being an assistant.

It has happened before but generally a high major gets a HC from the Mid Majors. So if he ever wants to get a HM job he might have to do some time as HC at a MM.

They play in a better arena than the Assembly Hall. It is a little smaller but much nicer.

If Jankovich leaves, I'm hoping for Reggie Theus. Or maybe Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens. Aw heck, I just remembered, that's been done already.

So, would Chris Collins want to coach at a school where the court is named after his father?

A bit of trivia: ISU was the first school to hire a Division I black head basketball coach, Will Robinson -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Ro...8basketball%29).

I agree with those saying that even if it is only ISU, it is still above Jerrance Howard's level at this time.

I watched "Lost In Space" all the time as a kid, and I don't remember Will Robinson as being black.

Yeah, when I was trying to think of his name I had to Google it to make sure I wasn't going to write something stupid (I know, I know that sure leaves the door wide open)

Or, maybe Lost in Space just had a good make-up artist?????

That's right. SMU, the historic leader in NCAA scandal scar tissue, is borderline desperate to hire a fossil with one vacated Final Four (UCLA) and one postseason ban (Kansas) on his collegiate coaching résumé. Brown never cared about the rules then; do you really expect him to pore over the rules manual and learn them all now?
Meanwhile, with the current status of any deal unknown, they are understandably getting anxious. This from a Dallas area sports radio guy:

The open eval for college basketball recruiting starts tomorrow and #SMU is still without a head coach. Didn't see this coming.

I never understood the love affair with Larry Brown. He has no loyalty and had a ton of recruiting violations in college. He's certainly not the guy I would want to resurect my basketball program. Why not go with a younger, aggressive coach? Why isn't Theus lobbying for this job?

I think it is a long-shot that any program stronger than ISU would offer Collins the opportunity to take over. What has he proven? And, what have coach K's understudies done?

Collins would be lucky to get the ISU job with the level of talent they will have next year. They have a great shot at winning the MVC and the right mix of skills to make a run in the tournament. If not for a number of poor calls at critical points, they would have beaten Stanford in the NIT... the same Stanford that destroyed everyone else they played.

That being said, it sure doesn't sound like Brown to SMU is anywhere close to being a done deal so Jankovich may not be going anywhere anyway. If I were him, I would wait another year and take a job with a real program. He had a real shot at K-State and was considered for other jobs as well.

A little smaller.......it holds 10,200 people?????????? The Hall is more than half again as big as Redbird, way bigger at 16,700. Night, meet day.

What is the official capacity of the Hall for basketball? Didn't it used to be 16,128? For some reason that sticks in my head, maybe because we used to have sellouts all the time and I saw the number a lot. Is the 16,700 you mentioned an approximation or the actual number? They've stuffed a few more fans on the floor--Krush and all, so maybe the number went up a few hundred.

16,618 (pretty sure that's for men's basketball as well).

I believe that's right. As soon as i saw that number, it resonated. At least mine had an "8" on the end . . .

I am with you on Larry Brown, he was a cheater (at Kansas), He and Isiah Thomas crapped all over the Knicks, then bolted. As for Jerrence Howard, its a resume builder.

BrooksTaylorFan, I like the Reggie Theus reference. Reggie Theus' resume probably raises red flags with ADs when they get to first coaching job. From 1995 to 1998 I followed Hall of Fame NFL Player Dick Butkus as head coach at Deering High, a fictitious High School basketball team, as Coach Bill Fuller, oh did I mention it was a TV sitcom? He needs to make his resume filler more believable.

I was at the Larry Brown press conference today at noon at SMU. He was asked about his staff & replied, "I have had about a 1000 calls from people wanting a job with me" but he has made no hires. Do we know If Jerrance has finalized anything with SMU or is still in the mix?
