New Illini Mascot?

The corn....eh. Looks like he tripped over his primary bong on his way to his secondary bong. Not appropriate for a mascot, college or otherwise. I do like corn, though.

I don't think he's ever coming back in an official capacity. Let him remain a mystical, underground figure for the students. The best choice, IMO, is some variation on Lincoln. I wish we could have a stern looking Lincoln with a slogan like, "We will emancipate you!". Far to non-PC. There are lots of possibilities. No silly or cartoonish faces. That would continue in spades with a Lincoln symbol (again, more symbol than "mascot"--how could we treat the memory and image of the consensus greatest President in the nation's history like a circus figure?)

1. Drunk Lincoln, bad idea as it not only degrades the closest thing Illinois has to a patron saint but we don't need a drunken mascot
2. Tornado, Iowa State is already the Cyclones and we don't need to be too
3. Corn Guy, I agree with "dontlikepants" he looks like he is super stoned, just a bad idea
4. Tractor, not only a rip on my major (Ag Engineering/Crop Sci) and 90% of the UI students wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a corn or bean field (see Blago's ~2006 Pro-Ethanol commercial, he was knee deep in a bean field)
5. Deer, eh not really against but we can do so much better
6. Squirrel, PASS

My personal choice is to bring back the Chief but if we REALLY have to go down this road I have a feeling we can get something better than these. Why not the Piasa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasa)? Or the Eagle idea someone had a while back? Have the mascot meet the crowd, do tricks, ... and he/she will take a knee during the 3-in-1 while the Chief dances.

Best idea yet! Definitely not a squirrel. I live near Terre Haute and Indiana State had a vote for new mascot. They actually were in the same position we are, they had to replace Chief Ouabachi, and they did so with Sycamore Sam, a nonspecific woodland creature. Kinda looks like a sqirrel though.

+1 It will be difficult to replace the chief's tradition with a new mascot and perhaps shouldn't even be attempted.

I don't think a mascot is necessary, but if we do get something I think an Eagle like Boston College's would be ok...

If it'd decided that we NEED something, gimme Abe Lincoln. He can be Fightin' Abe, fireworks can come out of his top hat, and he can dance the 3-in-1 since it's not a "real" Native American dance with any meaning. So, in theory, there should be no issue with him doing the same tumbling "stunts" to the same music.
