Thank God it's just a sprained ankle. Although, this means he's gonna be more likely to suffer them in the future now.

I don't know, sprained ankles can be worse than a broken ankle depending on the sprain. Since the x-ray came out negative, it doesn't sound that it's too bad. 2-3 weeks is a while to sit out though.

Pretty normal for any legitimate sprain, especially with no games.

I've never broken my ankle; I have sprained it several times playing sports. Personally, I'd rather take aspirin and rest over a cast. The biggest downside is that the ligaments become weakened, making it far more likely to roll or sprain the ankle again. He'll be fine, as long as it doesn't become a chronic problem.
