I'll go out on a limb "Expectation" wise and predict that Egwu & Mc stats combined will exceed ML's Soph year. Egwu stats Freshman year were very close to ML's frosh year. However, I won't go as far as predicting Egwu going early and higher than 11 th pick.

I agree because I think that Groce and staff are actually capable of teaching there guards how to throw a pass into the paint. It's not that difficult.

It is, if your 7'0" center is outside the 3 pt line. Worse yet actually out there looking to shoot the ball.

Definitely Chase Budinger is athletic. He's the only one I can think of I would put above average though.

Meyers Leonard's impact on the game went beyond stats.
He changed a lot of shots in the paint and was a focal point of the defense on the offensive end.
This year, without a big-time shot blocking presence to rely on, perimeter defenders will be required to contain opposing guards and wings.
I agree that the stats can (and will) be replaced, although they will probably be distributed more over the whole team rather than just the center position.
From a rebounding perspective, we should expect to get more from the 4 position this year over with the return to more traditional personnel (size-wise at least) in that spot.

That is simply ridiculous. If that was the case Matt Heldman or Lucas Johnson would have been All Americans from hard work. To say that hand eye coordination or reflexes/reaction time is not an athletic trait is just not correct. I know i hope any point guard we recruit has these physical traits and then develops their skill set to use them as best they can but they have to have the physical ability to do so. A recent example at center would be Tisdale vs Myers. I think tisdale worked his rear off to maximize his potential were other Illini have not reached theirs.

I do however believe that hard work, coaching and dedication can improve the skill level of athletes at their sport. That is the main reason i think our team next year could do better than i originally thought. I do believe we have some good athletes but they were not developed to their potential or lead to make the correct choices on the floor the past few seasons. I just have a good feeling about what i have read now versus than in the past

difference in opinions - there is a difference in being a good athlete and a good basketball player. However, I do agree that in some cases, it doesn't matter how hard you work, you might not make it.

My expectations is that we play hard, improve, recruit good young men that represent the university well!
