How many summer league guys get selected for teams? I feel like Omer Asik was a good example of a guy that came from nowhere, but not sure if he was a summer league product. I find Jamar's performance especially interesting considering they just lost Ray Allen and may be in need of a sharpshooter.

They need post players in the worst way, and if I remember correctly, Davis is hurt right now, so he'll get a good chance at some PT.

Omer was drafted in the 2nd round in 2008 and traded to the Bulls. The Bulls did a sort of draft and watch on Omer, I believe he started playing for them in 2010.

That's great news. I'm glad that he's gotten his life back on track. Hopefully its a guaranteed contract.

ML with a double-double--14 pts & 11 boards on get this 3 of 4 FG attempts. And of course ML gets interviewed after the game and announcer called him Miles.
3 blocks. Chris Weber is in love with ML. Illini Family can be proud of his first game.

Meyers played fine tonight in his debut. He managed a double-double (14 pts, 11 boards, 8/10 from the line) despite taking only 5 shots in 35+ minutes of play. His guards did a terrible job of getting him the ball. Worse even than the IL guards last year. PG Damian Lillard is a strong scorer, but needs to slow the game down and allow others to establish position so he can deliver them the ball. I hope he takes the summer to work extensively on his pick and roll timing with Leonard. He didn't bother to do that in this game.

Offensive possessions seemed a bit fast for Meyers with the 24 second shot clock. He will need to learn how to establish post position much sooner, and be offensive-minded in his use of a top of the key pick, rather than just setting it for the sake of it. Weber's plodding motion likely didn't help with his sense of urgency or pick and roll skills. Stamina and energy looked good, and announcer Chris Webber had all sorts of positive things to say about Meyers.

He presents as earnest, passionate, and well-spoken in the post-game interview. Good start. Go Meyers!

(strange to see John Diebler and Meyers Leonard on the same team!)

It was the same thing on the Blazers channel. Nothing but praise and love for Leonard. Great first game. I think he may have even blocked more shots than he was credited for.

NBA Transaction log has nothing of the sort. And the Celtics currently have 12 of their 13 roster spots filled. They do seem to need another guard though- right now, the roster features 5 smalls and 7 bigs.

I only watched the first quarter but saw ML trying to set picks that were horribly timed showing a low b ball iq, getting pushed around, and floating on the perimeter. The numbers say he did fine even though he played a lot of minutes but I saw the same player we had at UofI. Great potential but not ready to be a solid contributor next year. He had an ideal match up last night with a smaller less athletic even though stronger along with what seemed like a higher b ball iq in the other teams starting center who I suspect will not make an nba roster next year. Luke Babbitt the former tOSU decommit who played his college ball at Nevada had a solid game when I watched and Damian Lillard looked good to me.

Maybe, ML goes off for 20 and 10 his next game, shows strength other than running, jumping, and can consistently set solid picks. We'll see what game two brings.

Chris Webber's commentary later in the game might help understand Meyers' contributions in more depth. Re: setting picks, check out the last shot by Lillard. He uses Meyers' pick to get space. Webber said that due the Meyers setting solid picks throughout the game Rivers had to position himself to get around the pick. That set up the shot.

Webber also commented that the guards were not rewarding Meyers for running the court, being active on both ends of the court. Get the ball to the big fella. Sound familiar?

Luke Babbitt is a third year player who is very limited in his offensive arsenal. That's why he's playing summer ball. He should look good against summer league competition.

Lillard will figure out when he's playing a team with interior defense that feeding Meyers the ball will pay big time dividends. Those two will be quite a match-up problem for the opposition in a couple years.

Meyers was easily the Blazers most efficient offensive player. They rarely if ever ran a play for him. Not all his screens were textbook, but the Blazers scored lots of buckets on high screen roll where Meyers wiped out the guard. 80% from the line. I can see him struggling to stay in games early in the year because I think fouls will be a problem.

Overall, MUCH more positives to take from what I saw.

It looks like the Blazers are going with Leonard as their starting center sooner rather than later. They are stockpiling a few journeyman backup centers so Meyers won't have to play huge minutes, but no one who might be considered starting material. Time for the big guy to learn on the job!

Here's a short (1 minute) video of ML with his impressions of his first game as a pro:

Edit -- > Well, don't know what happened to that video...it was there earlier today. Here's a collection of other ML videos:

I would love for that to be the case. Hell, he might be the 30th best starting center in his rookie year, but all I want to see from him is consistent improvement. I'll be rooting for him and the Blazers next season.

It sure does look like him and the box score shows an M. Davis. Crazy that in this day of age, it's hard to find an uptodate summer league roster.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but the Bulls are going to play a preseason game against the Cavs at Assembly Hall in October. Wish it coulda been against the Blazers or Nets.
