@TheBigLead RT @TomCrean: I am doing great. I have been thinking about you alot since last weekend. A whole lot. How are you doing?

Tom Crean
@TomCrean Sorry. That was to a new recruit. Wish I could tell you who. Sent it by mistake. Don't panic. Lol

Crean quickly clarified it was a tweet to a recruit – in his defense, last weekend was an open recruiting period – and said his wife was laughing at him. Nevertheless, the wording came off a bit creepy.

Haha just kind of funny, and creepy. The Tanman has assembled a great team at Indiana, but still fun to poke fun at him.

Random girl...? Weird. Bobby Petrino pt 2. And who says that to a 15-17 yr old boy anyway besides grandmothers and child molesters.

I know, after thinking about it more, that had to have been intended for another woman... not way he could send that to a guy, let alone and HS boy.

Wife either likes having the money too much or isn't very bright.

Yep, he's busted, and probably paying the price already.

I agree. I'd love to see Crean in any kind of hot water, but it doesn't seem plausible.

There is a private messaging format in twitter... and you can tweet from your phone its not a stretch by any means.

Yep. People accidentally tweet things they meant to DM all the time. It's an easy mistake to make and I've seen it happen countless times.

Yep. It can be easy to try to send a DM. but put the message in the timeline instead. Been there, done that.

...and of course, an inadvertently-public tweet to a woman he wasn't married to ultimately caused the resignation of a US Congressman last year.

It also just so happens that he tweets that message to a young college girl who seems to been a big sports follower and is in the same area as Creen. Yeah, there is probably more to this story than an "accidental" message.

I'm not hoping this turns out to be something to be honest with you. The girl likely has nothing to do with IU athletics and would therefor not lead to him getting fired. The problem would be between him and his wife and I dont wish that on any marriage.

And the implausible deniability continues:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-...62--ncaab.html

If he sent that message to a recruit, it's worse than if he sent it to a woman he recently met because that's just not something any adult coach should be sending to a teenager.

You'd think Crean could afford a pre-paid for f--k sake. Cheating and using Twitter to communicate??? Either arrogant as hell or a total dumb ass. .

Can't someone verify who the tweet was meant for? Rachel doesn't sound like any recruit I know. Maybe he was helping the women's team out with recruiting?

I think this was a tweet that went out to anyone who follows him. Rachel just happens to be the person whose twitter account they copied the tweet from. I don't think Rachel plays into this at all.

In other words. he meant to direct a private tweet to someone, but accidentally sent it to everyone who follows him.

That's my understanding anyway. It doesn't mean he didn't intend it for another woman; just not as clear cut as it seems on the surface.

Any tell-tales are probably long deleted. A perusal of the list of people he followed before Aug 3 might have been enlightening -- it currently consists mostly of public figures and basketball people. In any case, there are places that keep archives of this stuff in some circumstances (there are some great sites that track deleted tweets of politicians), and I'm sure deadspin and yahoo sports are on it.

It did get me to thinking though -- since you can only DM someone who follows you, and if you want a recruit to be able to DM you, then you'd have to be following that recruit. I'm sure this is no news flash, but since follow lists are public, that might be enlightening in terms of recruiting targets. It does look like Crean is following a couple of recruits:
