Ernest Thomas is his #Illini big brother who helped him get there!

#illini WR Darius Millines was back to full contact today after wearing green limited-contact jersey yesterday.

Tommy Davis was first #illini newcomer to get newcomer stripe taken off practice helmet. One newcomer a day will lose stripe, Beckman said.

Camp Rantoul: Day 4 update

All of the newcomers, freshmen and transfers alike, wear a stripe on their helmet. Starting today, following each practice, one of the players is going to lose his stripe, Which is a good thing. This morning, it was Northern Illinois transfer Tommy Davis who got to take the stripe off of his helmet and put it on a dry-erase board. He signed his name next to it, signaling the end of newcomerism. And he was given a T-shirt that reads "Invest." "Tommy worked hard and he's done a lot of great things for us," Illinois coach Tim Beckman said. "We talked about it as a staff and he got 10 votes." The newcomers each are assigned a big brother. For Davis, it was fellow safety Earnest Thomas, who went in front of the team with his protege. "We all embraced him," Thomas said. "I had a plan that I was going to make sure he was the first one. We got that done."

TB coaching era

Is it me, or does it seem like the Illini Football team getting more instruction from their coaches in the TB era?

Just watching clips from practice, I see more attention to the details of winning football.

Some ask if this will be a "down year" for Illini football, I see a lot of improvement. I can see 7-8 wins before a bowl game.

Go !

#illini sr DT Glenn Foster has added about 20 pounds and switched from #47 to #91. Tim Banks said he can be as good as he wants to be.

No surprise, but the NFL scouts at Illini practice this morning were focused on the o- and d-lines (Pocic, Thornton, Spence, Buchanan)

Camp Rantoul note: Beckman showed #illini a highlight tape and used 3 minutes of Ray Eliot's "Proper State of Mind'' speech.

That newcomer/big brother thing is a pretty cool idea...more competition/accountability being stressed.

Has Beckman appropriated the label "Orange Krush" for our defense?

Did anyone see the TaJarvis Fuller injury that was referenced in the Beckman interview? Did it look bad?

Defense looks solid this year very close to last years.

Offense will open things up with the weapons they have and surprise a lot of teams, my fear is that turnovers will plague this team.

What about special teams? Is there ever any news on how this critical unit is progressing?
