According to the Illinois Sports Travel site it's the Sheraton Maui Hotel and Resort.

Enjoy it Griffster. Maui is supposed to be an amazing place and you get to watch some Illini basketball, including your son. What a dream vacation.

If you don't want to shell out for the team hotel, there are a lot of condos on the island that can be had relatively cheaply.

yep.. just found one only one hotel away... easy walking distance.. 189.00 a night... ocean view is like 289.00 much better than the $449 at the teams hotel.

Tell them that babysitters are cheaper and they're welcome to pay their own way.

Pop for the Kapalua Ritz Carlton. Best hotel we've ever stayed at.

Griffster, how's Tyler doing? Heard lots of good reports about his summer workouts, especially his shooting. Is he enjoying Groce's new offensive system and approach?

Griff, I'd consider looking at Kaplua villas, they are one or two bedroom villas with living room and kitchen, cheaper than ritz and if you rent through them, you have full access to ritz pool and amenities.

You could also rent a villa through vrbo.com in Kapalua, or right by the Sharaton for much cheaper. I wouldn't consider bringing a family of five and staying in a hotel, too many by owner options in every area that are more cost effective and provide extra space and a kitchen.

Griff I'd echo the vrbo thing. I've gone on that site and rented condo units before and had very good experiences. Enjoy. Maui is a beautiful place.

Griffster,

My in-laws are splurging and taking the whole family to Maui over the Thanksgiving Holiday! Nice right? Anyway, I just ran the rates for the time we will be there at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel and they range from $272-166 night based on 2 adults and 2 children. Our in-laws have stayed there on many occassions and they love the place. It is just down the way from the Big Black Rock which is apparently a pretty awesome place to cliff dive and snorkel. It's also about a mile and a half from the civic center.

If you set up camp there, look out for a group of 11 tearing up the beach!

I plan on attending a couple of the games with the kids. For some reason, my wife thinks she will be soaking up the sun from 5-7pm. I think I can convince her to attend a game with me though. It may take a Pina Colada or two!

We leave on the 15th and I certainly can't wait to get out there. Hope to see you around.

Make sure you check out the Honolua Store at the entrance to Kapalua Resort. Best cheap breakfast and lunch place on the island. Try the Loco Moco for breakfast and Spam sandwiches (more Spam sold per capita than any state). The locals are usually lined up there so that tells you something.

Griffster, I think I am going to Maui this year. We had a beer in Las Vegas a while back, but sorry to mention that tourney. The Maui tourney is a great small venue and I went last time Illinois was there. I booked at Sheraton using points this time, but I agree that the Kapalua Villas can be a great deal as well as awesome place to stay, especially for a larger family. We stayed there last time in Maui and rented through an individual owner. They are just not convenient to the team's hotel--a short drive away.

Have a great time. We were on Maui about 5 years ago. A company sponsored trip with Auto Owners. The buy in wasn't too bad. We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani near Walea. there were a lot of condo's sitting empty. You should be able to come up with a good deal somewhere.

We did a little snorkeling it was a blast. A Green Sea Turtle was less than 10 feet from me and moving closer. Since they are endangered or at least protected we can't touch them so I moved away.

The snorkeling trip was with 2 person sea kayaks. We were pretty close to a humpback whale and her new calf. Momma stayed off in the distance. (100-150 yards?) I kind of forget. Her calf was curious so he/she began to swim towards us. I think they say a calf is nearly 1 ton at birth so we didn't want Junior to accidentally bump us and we certainly didn't want momma made either. I think the whales start to congregate off Maui in November.

The former fishing village of Lahaina was a nice time too. A few shops to wonder in and out of. One of the largest Banyan trees is there.

As we left and were heading to the airport we saw Parasailing some where near Kahului. It was interesting.

Well, I bought my tickets for this tourney, so I'm going to Maui again. Looking forward to seeing how we do with our new coach. Maui is not that long of a trip from the Bay area, just a 4-5 hour direct flight. Some tickets are still available for those that have time to go to Maui during the week of Thanksgiving. In fact, you can take a red-eye home Wednesday night, and get back in time for the Turkey dinner, if you are lucky.

General admission tickets for all three Illinois games are only $338.00, still some available.
