The first victory of the year! College tennis convinces the NCAA to pull back some of its changes to the sport. So...the fans DO have a voice.

The third set tiebreaker and the 6-all tiebreaker for doubles has been scrapped.

NCAA pulls back

Saw the newly redone courts today(almost done) not sure I like the new paint scheme. Dark blue courts, light blue around the courts.

Ruben Gonzales won his third Futures title of the year in Germany. Congrats to Ruben!

Gonzales wins in Germany

I also saw a post where Michigan coach (and former Illinois assistant coach) Berque put out a letter about some of the changes that the NCAA came up with. He's mostly concerned about the no warm up and the shortened changeover time.

Big year... not making nationals is simply not a possible outcome this year. Hopefully the good finish to last year and some new faces will help push us back into the top tier.

Actually I think making the NCAA Sweet Sixteen would be a major, major accomplishment this year. No real No. 1 or even No. 2, doubles is still a huge question mark and the team is young. Might be a year or two before they really start making their move back into the top ten.

But then again, they could surprise everybody this year. I wouldn't mind that at all!

Rajeev Ram and dubs partner Brian Baker escaped a match point to advance to the 2nd round. Good going for Ram. He made the quarters at Wimbledon I think. Would be nice to see him do it at the US Open as well.

Both former Illini Ram and Anderson get wiped out in straight sets in the 1st round of the US Open today.

Greatest Big Ten tennis team ranks on the Illini Tennis site. Started at No. 12 with Nebraska. Easy choice.
