Some very sad news out of St. Louis. Megan Boker, who led Wheaton St. Francis High School to the Illinois Class AA State Title in 2006, was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. She played for St. Louis University in College, this has to hit close to home.......senseless

ST. LOUIS • Prosecutors filed murder charges today against Keith V. Esters and Jonathan Terrell Perkins, both 18, in last weekend’s killing of Megan Boken in a daylight holdup in the Central West End.

Esters is believed to have shot the woman when she resisted a robbery, and Perkins allegedly drove the getaway car, police said.

I don't want to open up a can of worms here, but we had a somewhat similar case here in San Antonio. An Air Force airman on her way to Del Rio stopped to get gas on the west side of town. A guy stole her purse and in an effort to get it back, she grabbed onto the side of his (stolen) car and reached in to try to retrieve it. He took off and started swerving, etc., and eventually ran into the side of another car, throwing her off the vehicle and into the roadway. It was a very dramatic and gutwrenching way for her to die. He was just found guilty of capital murder and given life in prison. He told the police he didn't set out to kill anyone that day, and I believe him. But he did set out to rob someone, and look what happened.

While there are few truly evil people in the world, most folks who commit crime have no sense of the damage they can actually cause while they're engaged in the act. It isn't worth your life to try to figure out if they have a sense of right and wrong, because they probably don't. I'm probably not one to lecture because I fear that in the same situation, I'd fight back too. It's just instinctive for many people. But don't test criminals. They come from a very different place when it comes to thought processes.
