The @MarchingIllini played for the #Illini today. Check out War Chant: http://twitvid.com/NFBFR . Think the guys are pumped for the season?

With Ron Zook, it seemed the sum was less than the parts. With Beck, it seems the sum will be exponentially more than the parts. It is hard not to get excited for this season.

It wouldn't surprise me to read that Beck and the staff led the team and the Marching Illini on an impromptu parade thru the streets of Chambana.

That would sure be nice, but to be fair we haven't seen this team on the field. Few have even seen this team in practice.

Agreed. Beckman has made a lot more effort that Zook ever did to connect to the town and students.

BTW, does anyone know which OL has his leg wrapped up in the last photo (at least he looks like an OL)?

Illinois QB and new coach on same page

After a 2011 season of upheaval, Scheelhaase believes it's his duty to be that guy.

He used the metaphor of an open palm to describe accepting the offseason changes. The Illini's collapse from a 6-0 start to a 7-6 finish last season resulted in the arrival of Beckman, an almost entirely new staff and a new spread offense.

"Take it with an open palm," Scheelhaase said. "Sometimes, when you have something you're used to, you want to hold onto it with a closed grip so often that you don't allow new things to come in because you're afraid of them.

Tribune: Kane
Reportedly, Nathan's arm strength has improved over the summer. This wouldn't surprise me as his arm strength has improved every year at Illinois.

Illinois: X-factors for 2012

Offense: Offensive lineman Hugh Thornton is playing left tackle after starting at guard the past two seasons...

Defense: Defensive lineman Michael Buchanan will be counted on to anchor the pass rush...

Special Teams: Defensive back Tommy Davis is one of the best kick returners in the country...

If you are trying to insinuate that Tim Beckman is doing something new by having the MI come in and play for the team after practice, Zook did the exact same thing every year he was here. This board has a lot of people trying to praise Beckman for things they don't think Zook did, when in reality there isn't as much difference as some like to think. At the same time, people praise Zook for things which he should not be praised for. I guess that is part of the internet age.

Okay, that matches on height and hair color.
