Associate athletics director Blayne Beal, who is in charge of communications, confirmed that the meeting took place with Hocutt and the returning players.

Beal also said the school was informed early Friday morning that Gillispie was hospitalized in Lubbock. Beal said he didn't know why he was hospitalized and had no further details on his condition.

CBSSports.com asked a separate source who is close to Gillispie if the Texas Tech coach's job is now in jeopardy. That source's response: "This is very, very serious."

Billie Gillispie is a terrific coach and recruiter, who unfortunately has some serious self-destructive tendencies. I sure am grateful for this time at Illinois (he recruited Deron Williams), but sure wouldn't want to have him involved in our program at this point in time.

More trouble for Gillispie as allegations of mistreatment surface

As Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie remains in a hospital room with his coaching career in jeopardy, allegations continue to surface about his mistreatment of players, coaches and others in the Red Raiders program.

Sources close to the Texas Tech program told CBSSports.com that Gillispie reneged on several promises to coaches, kept players in scholarship limbo, causing them to miss opportunities and money, and also practiced injured players so severely that they openly wept in practice.

I have honestly received about 300 texts, calls, tweets regarding Gillispie and just a single one has been in defense of Texas Tech coach.

Has there been a bigger train wreck in college basketball over the past decade?

This reminds me of my time at SIU law school back in the early 80s. Playboy was ranking party schools and they said SIU was so far ahead of everyone else they weren't even going to include them in the rankings! That thinking applies here., Foo G

Yes, Satan, though to be fair, that's over the last 20 years.

Outside of Illini nation, I think opinions of Billy Gillispie are much lower than those of Bruce Pearl.
Pearl didn't really implode like Gillispie has.

"allegations of mistreatment surface"

Don't really know the man, but based on what was said in the article, Billy Boy sounds like a real prick.

Would caution young recruits and their parents.......... watch out for guys with slick hair and nice suits. Take your time and dig deep if you can.

Dana O'Neil's take on Gillispie... Almost sounds like no one likes him and he doesn't care to have anyone like him.

Good call.
At least the others are still coaching.
Even with all that is going on at Texas Tech, Gillispie will wind up somewhere as an assistant at the least -- assuming he's let go after all of this.

Odds are good he's going to fired, I'd think. It's surfaced that Tech had to self-report secondary violations in January, for which the AD formally reprimanded Gillispie:

Quote:
Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said Wednesday the school self-reported secondary violations in January. At that time, Gillispie was issued a reprimand and told there would be "zero tolerance of for further disregard of the rules."

Sounds like a bunch of candyasses in Lubbock.

Don't remember any of the Aggies crying about Billy Clyde making them work.

Running 10 hour practices is against NCAA laws. And practicing a kid until he has fractures in both legs is bordering on abuse.

This isn't about "making them work".

I would call it abuse... and stupid, since you probably at least need the kid to come off the bench at some point.

I'm the last person in the world to take it easy on teens (you get eaten alive working in a high school if you're too laid back with them), but that ish is a bit ridiculous.

Sounds like "Happy Hour" started early-ish.
