The blue one looks the best of any of them.

Still the best option we've ever seen for our program (attached). But if I have to pick from what we have used already I'd say 1980-1982.

+1 Love that helmet. Of the ones shown, though, I'd have to go with the blue one and the orange Block I. Like most I'd like to see it without the outline on the I and without the matte finish.

can't remember if there was a concept photo floating around of it, but there is an orange helmet with a blue block I in the equipment room. gloss finish, no stripes

I really find it depressing that the most exciting thing about IL football these days is what color are there helmets.

Yeah, I would like the blue Block I helmet a lot more if it wasnt a matte finish. I also think that the shade of blue on the helmet doesnt match our unis, even if it wasnt a matte finish. If they are planning on going with a Block I permanently on the helmet I wish they would go with the Nike Circle Block I, but make the circle more of an oval like on BYU's helmets (like the attached mock-up).

Solid orange with orange looks classy. Bring it back!

I like the 71-76 helmet only because I get an emotional reaction to that one. That is what they wore when I was a freshman and just becoming a real Illini fan. Lonnie Perrin and Chubby Phillips.

The 83-87 all orange are my all time favorite. How I long for the days of Mike White.

That was the end of my days on campus but those helmets influenced by new coach Bob Blackman also remain my favorite. Up here in Wisconsin I get to see Larry McCarren doing Packer TV and radio and I feel a connection to the old Illini.

I will say that because the only other blue helmet in the BT is so iconic, I wonder if it makes good sense to join them with a blue one as well. We are the only school with orange and I believe we should emphasize not de-emphasize that. But I really would prefer that we work on what we do inside the uniforms. |

I do not care for the matte finish. We should have a metallic finish -- either orange or blue with the block I or Illini script

1977-79 or 1980-82 for me, although I do have a soft spot for the Zook era helmets simply because that's when I became an Illini fan.

Take the 77-79 logo, the zig-zag stripes that have been proposed, and a white facemask and that's a helmet I can get behind, only if the orange is glossy as all get out.

I'm just tired of the "leaning" Illinois. Have always loved the circular Illini in sans serif.
