Good News from #illini sideline. Terry Hawthorne was alert and moving when they took him to the hospital as a precaution. Scary moment.

I really want Beckman to give a meaningful post-game interview without simply filling it with buzz word garbage.

Tell us what you plan to do about this, show some emotion or something!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Illinois coach caught using chewing tobacco

Well, this is a pretty blatant violation of NCAA rules by Illinois head coach Tim Beckman, seen here throwing in a heavy pinch of chewing tobacco just prior to the Illini's road game against Wisconsin.

From the NCAA's list of banned substances:

"The use of tobacco products is prohibited for coaches, game officials and student athletes in all sports during practice and competition. A student-athlete who uses tobacco products during practice or competition is automatically disqualified for the remainder of that practice or game."

It's getting harder and harder to watch the full game.

There's nothing that can be done.

We were better than I thought we'd be today.

OMG, fire this guy please. Can this not be grounds for termination already???!!! What more does he need to do.

Using tobacco on the field? What kind of message is that for recruits and their parents? This is going to be a disaster...

As for the game, we are a lifeless, undisciplined team that lacks depth and fundamentals ... it's to the point where it's depressing.

I'm really trying to find a good reason to renew our split-four-ways season tickets. Can't think of one. It just doesn't make financial sense anymore.

Guh. We started out better than I thought but we're ending the way I expected.

Up 7-0, then 7-31 afterward. Let up 21 points in the 4th. Hawthorne carted out. Have a good evening.

I've always suspected that the team's poor showings this year were better explained by serious problems with the roster than by incompetent coaching, and I still think that's true today.

But after Tobaccogate, I think the most charitable thing you can say about Beckman is that he isn't the brightest bulb in the box. That bodes poorly for the program's future.

As soon as Hawthorne was injured, it was over.

We can't handle adversity like that.

I agree, all of the miscues by him so far (PSU recruiting disaster, Tobacco on the field??, terrible football performance)....why does it seem like we just a got a less talented version of Lane Kiffin?

As much as I am a fan of ILL football, it's too hard to watch them. Nathan @ QB is not the answer anymore.

I actually got a little excited at beginning of the game when we scored the first TD. I will try not to make that mistake again. This team is just disappointing, and I really don't see much improvement. As soon as Hawthorne left, the defense just fell apart. One player should not be that important.

And I know that Wiscy needs to get Ball on track, but I thought Bielema using Ball that late was a way of showing Beckamn that 'I don't like you very much'

Not saying that's good or bad, but it's certainly there, IMO.

As bad as we've looked I still think Zook just left us in a much worse situation than we realized. We have no depth at all. Hard to run an uptempo spread offense without depth.
