Press release: Illinois and Mizzou will host press conference on Oct. 18 "regarding the future" of Braggin' Rights Game in St. Louis." Hmm

No. Both ADs and coaches will talk, wouldn't if it were canceled. Great rivalry RT @MomHolmes1: @WernerESPNCU do you thik it will end?

This would be an absolute shame if it did end. This game provides both programs with a ton of national publicity, is a great event with an incredible atmosphere and should honestly be kept simply for the sake of tradition! We need to keep any cool one we've got now a days.

Three guesses in order of likelihood:
1) Rebranding
2) Extension
3) Site change

Didn't Mizzou lose their border battle football game with KU? I know there was talk that if they left for the SEC, KU wouldn't schedule them. If that is the case, then I would truly be surprised to see this series taken away.

Could they be moving to the Jones Dome?

Keep the game for sure but maybe alternate between St Louis and Chicago?

I suppose it's possible, but I think that is pretty unlikely.

Playing in Kansas City does not benefit us in the least and it's kind of a wash for them with Columbia being dead center between Kansas City and St Louis. I believe St Louis offers better exposure for their team. Perhaps they are just going to announce an extension. When is the current contract up? I actually think the way it is now benefits both teams equally and I really don't see a way to improve upon the status quo.

I said Kansas City because if it was St. Louis and Chicago, Illini fans would a 2 1/2 hour drive to each game while Mizzou fans would have a good 7 hours to Chicago which would not make sense. Kansas City would benefit them because it was be a big game in Kansas' backyard since they won't play them. Mizzou could be Illinois' annual game in Chicago every other year. Just a scenario. I would honestly hope we don't play Mizzou in Chicago because it opens up a door for them to recruit in the city more than they already do. St. Louis is where it should stay.

This will probably be an extension, or a home and away series in Champaign, Columbia. No way they move this to the Dome. You could get tickets for below face value outside the Scottstrade Center the last 4-5 years. Maybe football is involved?

A football version of the Braggin Rights game? I'm okay with that. I think we'd be on the short end of that for the first several years though. Yes, I agree, the way it is now is optimal for both schools. I wouldn't like the KC/Chicago thing for the reasons you stated as well as the fact that I don't see us doing 2 regular season games at the UC nor do I like the idea of losing the publicity in the Metro St Louis area we currently get.

Do you know something or is this just your guess? It could be something as simple as that. But do either of our womens teams generate enough buzz or have fans that travel well enough to make this viable? Where would they play?

Groce did say that he wanted more home games in the non-conference part of the schedule. My guess is that they rotate home-home-St Louis.

Little geography lesson for you. Probably 80% of those in orange for this game drive less than 2-1/2 hours and many drive less than an hour. The St. Louis metro east is probably the second largest population of Illini fans in the state. Why another game in Chicago. Guarantee we got more fans to this game last year than the UNLV game in Chicago.

Malcolm Hill and his family say hello. Takes them about 20-25 minutes to get to this game.

I would guess some rotation of CU, CoMO, and St. Louis.

Maybe ILL-STL-MIZ-STL-ILL-etc...

We need more out of conference home games of importance on the schedule. We lose two a year with commitments to the Braggin' Rights game and the UC game. If we wait for the B1G-ACC challenge to create that marquee home game for us, we get one every 2-3 years. Even now, that home game is against GT, which is not good for the fans of Champaign.

I hope this is it, and not some attempt to move to Chicago, KC, or any other venue.

This is the best game on the schedule, great atmosphere, nothing should be changed, don't move the sites don't do anything to ruin a great game. The beauty of the game is the 50-50 crowd and it's such a unique atmosphere and it would be lost by moving the site to any other location, it would be a bad move to do anything, everyone even nationally recognizes it is one of the great games of the year.

I really can't see moving it to Chicago since there is already a game played there.

I really, really, really hope they don't move it at all. Unless its to the edward jones dome. This is by far the best game of the season, with the greatest atmosphere that I've ever been to, for seven year's running. repeat, have been driving down to StL for this for seven years. This isn't a normal non-conference game, this is one of the best rivalries in the nation.

Not to mention, its my guys getaway trip for the winter. I need this, Illini fans need this, and right now, Mike Thomas needs this.

Take that back... maybe it will be played on a barge on the Mississippi... then I'd be fine with the move...

An extension of the series as is. No more, no less.

absolutely 100% agree. you have to learn to play on the road and you have to learn to play at a neutral site against good opposition. This game is perfect as it is. neutral site, great atmosphere, split crowd.

no reason to change anything about it. other than to extend it to infinity. and beyond.
