The Streak ended last week. From last season's Indiana game thru this season's Penn State game, it was 8-straight Big Ten league games in a row that an Illinois opponent garnered B1G Player of the Week honors
Now- in 9 of the last 10 B1G league games, an Illinois opponent has garnered Big Ten Player of the Week honors. (10 players total, 8 on defense) Quote:

The Illinois offense has produced 8 of the last 12 Big Ten Defensive Players of the Week in weeks when Illinois played a B1G opponent.
(It's 8 of the last 13 B1G Defensive Players of the Week when you include the 11/05/2011 UI bye week.) # of Illinois defensive opponents with B1G POW honors compared to # of B1G Defensive Players of the Week in UI's last 9 B1G games-

Ooh, ooh, I've got one!
The next time one of our wideouts sets a block (not even a great block, any block at all) on the edge on a bubble screen will be the first. Fix that! |

Klee with more strong words about the football situation-
"What does concern me the most is that these guys [the players] haven't bought in to what they're trying to do." "They haven't gotten thru to these guys yet. They don't believe in what they're teaching." "It's going to be really hard to sell tickets in 2013 if you win 2 or 3 games." 6:00- http://www.illinihq.com/audio/2012-1...-10-15-12.html |

With that offense, same players, two different coaching staffs, yet they perform identical to one another. Whats logically next ? |

Not sure what Klee's deal is. He is all in for Groce who hasn't coached a game, and ready to fire Beckman who is 7 games into his tenure. I can't say he's wrong, but it's way to early on both for those kinds of predictions from what I thought at one time was a pretty independent observer.

Meanwhile Klee has everyone thinking Groce is the greatest thing since sliced bread with a recruiting class everyone would be up in arms about were Weber still the coach. Again, Groce might be a great coach, but give him a chance to actually sign some top recruits and win some games. __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |

Interesting that on one hand Klee is crystal clear that you can't fire Beckman, we couldn't get anyone better to come last year and after a quick hook we would have even less to choose from.
Klee is convinced that Beckman is the wrong guy because a lot of the older guys haven't bought into Beckman. True enough. But geez, isn't that pretty common with a transition? Leach has benched his upperclassmen and gone with a massive youth movement at WSU even if they are essentially forfeiting the rest of the season. The difference is that WSU probably has more talent in the younger classes than the older classes. If Beckman did that at Illinois I don't even think we have enough young guys to field a team at some positions. __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |

While I'm somewhat surprised at how outspoken Klee is in his anti-Beckman stance, he always has been a straight shooter. I guess being the basketball beat writer doesn't require as much PC commentary when it comes to football.
I can't say I disagree though. It's obvious that there's confusion, lack of competitiveness, and something extremely wrong. There are too many first year coaches succeeding, or at least competing with teams that probably aren't built the way they want to build them. The fact that guys aren't buying in does say something about the leadership of the staff and the confidence they instill. |

A straight shooter, yes. But sometimes he can drastically misjudge people. Remember, Klee was convinced that Richmond was the team leader and would be the one to straighten out the seniors. Could anyone possibly be more wrong? And on the football side, he doesn't really know the players or coaches that well because he normally doesn't cover the team. If you don't know the guys very well, it is a heck of a leap to be making these judgements based upon what you hear in the locker room after a bad loss.
