Good people: I'm heading out. Will be the Denver columnist for The Gazette, mainly on the Broncos and Rockies. Excited for the opportunity.

Next week's my last at the News-Gazette. Can't imagine a better staff with a better man, Jim Rossow, leading it. Many, many thanks to all.

Good for Klee. I believe he is from Denver or at least has ties there. Someone will have big shoes to fill at the N-G. I always appreciated his honest insights. I wonder if him leaving had anything to do with him being on the outs with MT after his criticism of Beckman and the football team being a "disaster"?

Nothing, he is going back to Denver on a promotion. If nothing else, he felt at liberty of expressing himself without having to be politically correct.

I wonder if he knew he was leaving and felt like he could say anything he wanted to. I have to be honest, I lost some respect for him this last month or so. He said some things about the football team and staff that he shouldn't have said. All of what he said may come to be fact, but I feel that was not his job to talk about Beckman as he did. Nonetheless I wish him the best of luck moving forward.

Doubt it. Though I wouldn't be shocked if he already knew he was leaving when he made those comments.

I think you are correct. Years ago, I used to say that I hoped I lived long enough to feel comfortable just spouting off anything that came into my head. I'm really close now and its very liberating. Knowing you are leaving (or close enough to death) eliminates the concern about how others might take your comments or think of you.

could see this one coming. Klee was too big a fish for this fish bowl. with his sports writer of the year award and all. better things were sure to come, and they did.

Good luck Paul!

There is no Gazette in Denver. I think he must be covering Denver sports teams for the Colorado Springs Gazette. Well, that's semantics I guess. Sounds like a cool job either way. Best of luck!

Great for him - stinks for Illini hoops fans. We've been blessed with two great NG writers on the basketball beat in Dawson and Klee.

I'd be surprised if we are as fortunate this time around.

Maybe the News-Gazette Illini HQ could just redirect to alioneye.com.
