Doesn't work well as a background and I can't find the wallpaper on fightingillini.com

Let me know if someone finds it!

Groce is a fit guy - he needs to dump the pleated front slacks.

Yeah Same looks the same as Bertrand....6'5? 6'6? Shorter than Griffey and Shaw.

I don't think you can take the heights on this poster as gospel. Each player is photographed individually and then composited.

They might have fudged with the heights a little to make the design work.

I don't know... I don't really like it to be honest. The font for the games is so ridiculously small, I can't even read what the opponent is on my desktop screen background. The heights are a little bit...off? Seems like they could have made the schedule font a little bit bigger and the Illinois Basketball font a little bit smaller. Overall OK, I guess.

The seniors are in the middle, flanked by Bertrand (next most senior player) and the coach. They are grouped by seniority with the coach just to the right of the seniors.

And yes, the heights are not accurate because the photo is a composite of individual photos.

Heights shouldn't be far off if the advertising team is doing their job. They should be accurate in relationship to the next person.

I believe it's the outline of the State.

Wouldn't it be so much easier to just take a photo like that with everyone there at the same time, rather than take 15 of them and try to edit them all together? That doesn't make sense to me.

For their application no

- Considering this thing might get blown up real large, it's better to have the higher resolution of each player and put together in a much larger document, rather than a smaller images.

- I'm guessing the individual player shots might be used in other promo materials as well

- Most importantly it's impossible to light the whole group the way to achieve the visual effect and provide good enough quality / direction of light for visual effects done post production like the way they did with each individual shot.

The crushed hi pass look really got popular with Tim Tadder / Joey Lawerence etc. It's pretty much de rigeur for athletic / music portraits now a days.

Yes, the players were photographed individually, but the illusion of their height is coming from the staggered placement of foreground and background (as seen in their feet). McLaurin and Bertrand is probably the best example.

There's a million different variable that could have played into the heights I didn't want to go into from camera to post process that could distort the heights

I believe the staff photographers use Canon, so if I'm shooting a bunch of full length portraits of people of hugely varying heights. My lens would be the 70-200 2.8 as it's a lot sharper and doesn't have the backfocus problems of the 24-70 2.8 and mean less moving around for me than 85 1.8

which would mean also, that a lot of foot zooming by the photographer would occur and changing of the focal length as well. The subjects were stationary so as not to throw off the lighting ratio etc, but that doesn't mean they all stood to the millimeter in the exact spot.

A very small change in either focal length or position of subject could easily change the size in an image by 10-15%. I've experienced this many times when doing face swaps or eye swaps for clients in situations where their eye or face or myself might have moved less than a couple of inches.

Maybe some fudging was done with the staggering and refudging to to make sure TA wasn't as tall JB etc once they got the individuals into the composite.

Bottom line is in any photoshop created image dealing with images taken from lots of different sources, don't take anything away from it, other than what a cool image.
