The next highest seeded "New team(s) to bracket" are Colorado and Witchita State at 7 seeds.

Many of us as fans would be happy to finish with a 9 or 10 seed come mid-March. Means we made the dance.

I want nothing to do with an 8-9 seed as the 1 seed lurks in the 2nd round.

^^^ I just want to make the Dance without eking our way in after missing the tourney 3 of the last 5 years. Plus this year the top teams outside of IU don't seem appreciably better than the second tier of teams.

Way too early for this to mean anything. We still have work to do to earn any kind of seeding remotely close to this.

If you like this sort of thing, there's the Bracket Matrix, which has recently updated.

Interesting. Illinois and Gonzaga in a virtual tie, both averaging out at 3.7 seed (4 seed).

The more non-conference wins we stack up, the easier it'll be to make the dance. That may sound obvious, but if we can have 13 or 14 wins before we start B1G play, it makes it all that much easier to get a tourney bid come March. I'd say we need 10 or 11 more wins to make the dance, but say we go undefeated in the rest of the non-conf. That's 14-0 heading into B1G play. With our type of talent, I'm sure someone can find us seven wins in the conference season.

I would be very surprised if a 20 win B1G team did not make the tournament. I think at 20 you are pretty comfortable. Anything less and you start sweating it out.

Also, if you look at that bracketology from ESPN, UI has beaten 4 teams on it. Granted GW and Norfolk State are two of them but having wins over 4 teams projected for the tournament this early in the year is pretty good.

Lotta basketball left to play, and the BIG slate could be harsh. Still, I'm beginning to lose my pessimism from the previous coaching era. I actually watch games where we're not playing well and think, "we've got this". There's a toughness to this squad that simply wasn't present in any of the recent teams, and given there's been so little change in the roster from last year, we can only attribute that to Groce & co.

Halla-!#@$in-lujah!

Although I find bracketology this early silly, this just doesn't seem right. This is saying if the tourney were today we'd be a 4 seed? Seeding is based off 3 main things come march - record, rpi, and "big" wins.

Well, were 11-0, top 5 rpi (iirc), and have arguably the best win in the country.

No love from ESPN and Lunardi. No surprise there.

Yeah, he states that this isn't a predictive bracket, but he's clearly factoring the collapse of last year into it.

If the season ended today, Illinois would likely be a 2 or 3 seed, but the season isn't ending today, so we've got to keep winning : )

Yep, he clearly isn't sticking to the "as if it were today" scenario. The problem with that approach is it would clearly illustrate how silly it is to do a bracket in mid December.

Wow, that's a horrible bracket. I'm not sure how Wyoming isn't in there right now and they should definitely be ahead of FSU if anything.m the PAC with 6 teams but the Valley with only two. ISU should get a bid if these are just projections. Wow, just wow Mr. Lunardi.
