I'd look for Golesh at WR then. Bridge at T/TE and Patton OL/G/C

Man, Oklahoma always has great O lines so this could really help. Would Patton focus on Texas/Oklahoma for recruiting then?

Love that he has coached OL for two very successful spread-passing teams in NW and OU. I wonder if he is getting the co-OC title at Illinois. __________________ ONLY ORANGE! Last edited by Groundhogday; Feb 8, 2013 at 04:49 PM. |

Not mad about it one bit if he can get 5 guys to work together and gel.
Also for recruiting reasons: Look at our coaches with ties to big time states/areas Beckman- Ohio Cubit- S. FLA Patton-TEX Golesh- Illinois/Ohio/MICH |

Count me as against the Co-OC thing. Seen enough of that already.

Now it makes sense Patton was let go yesterday when OU brought Mangino back. So he is a "free agent".

The problem this year was that neither Beatty nor Gonzales was ready to be a coordinator and between the two of them there was zero experience coaching the line (essential for the run-oriented spread). We didn't have two co-coordinators, we had two NO-coordinator. With Cubit + Patton we would have an OC and someone experienced to help him with line play and run game. The only thing I wonder about is why OU would let Patton go after years of very good OL play. __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |

I know Mangino and Stoops are buds but Patton seems awfully good to just let go. |

I am sure some of the great recruiting was due to it being Oklahoma but he definitely has strong ties in Texas, hope that can continue.

I think you answered your own question about why he'd leave OU. The co-OC posiition has to be happeneing. |

RyanK, GHD, or illinidarrin, do any of you know Patton's age? I would not be against the idea of making Patton the Assistant Offensive Coordinator with Cubit making 99.9% of the calls and training Patton, if the other staff members believe he deserves that role.

He was born in March 1971, so i guess that means he will be 42.

Maybe he can turn out to be a great recruiter like Mike Locksley was when he helped us get Regis Benn.

It would be nice to keep a few of the top instate linemen home and maybe with him he can help do that, I know Illinois is harder to sell than Oklahoma but you never know what can happen

..hope that there is cohesion with the new staff....this kind of turnover is not great and it takes two to tango so I hope all parties went to school a little bit...
