I know there's a Blackhawks thread, but hopefully there are people interested in watching all the games lurking about.

EAST
(A1) Montreal vs. (WC1) NY Rangers
(A2) Ottawa vs. (A3) Boston

(M1) Washington vs. (WC2) Toronto
(M2) Pittsburgh vs. (M3) Columbus

WEST
(C1) Chicago vs. (WC2) Nashville
(C2) Minnesota vs. (C3) St. Louis

(P1) Anaheim vs. (WC1) Calgary
(P2) Edmonton vs. (P3) San Jose

A lot to like! It's always more fun when more Canadian teams are in, IMO, so this is great - especially that this Toronto team is in.

I'm not a hockey guy, but when the Stanley cup playoffs roll around, I'm a hockey guy. The intensity and speed of the game picks up so much. I can't even watch the hawks during the season but I can watch any team during the playoffs. It's just that great.

Haha! I saw this on the /r/hockey page on Reddit this morning. If any of you IL'ers are Redditors, /r/hockey comes strongly recommended. One of the best and funniest communities on that site.

It's amazing how bad the Leafs have been with the resources that franchise has. A classic example of a team with no incentive to win because of how much revenue they can generate even when they lose.

But that's probably gonna change. Auston Matthews is a stud.

And Babcock is a heck of a coach.

My totally biased assessment: I don't see anyone in the West beating the Blackhawks.

Am I the only one thinking the Flames beat the Ducks?

Probably, except for Flames fans. Just kidding, you might be right. Just a few quick observations: Nice jump for Edmonton to second place in the division although I think Sharks will win; Too bad Columbus and Pittsburgh have to play in the first round (kind of like Hawks-Blues last year); and I will be disappointed if Hawks don't knock off Preds in four or five games.

But that's probably gonna change when the old man dies and Rocky takes over and besides, this Toews lad they drafted in the first round last year (3rd overall) is a stud and this Kane kid they just got this past June (1st pick overall ) has quite the hot stick.
There was really not a whole lot of difference between the Hawks and Leafs since 1970. Both teams took their rabid fanbases for granted.

The old man died on 9-26-2007, but he had already started to cede some control to Rocky before that. The transformation of the Hawks since about the time Toews & Kane got on the ice along with the passing of the old man, is one of the more remarkable stories in pro sports.

There is probably a pretty good 30-for-30 in there somewhere. I mean, for 30 years, the Hawks just about tried to give 15-20 W's away every year by refusing to pay players what they were worth. The players they avoided in the draft or traded away for next to nothing is legendary

Well yeah, but back in the pre-salary cap era the Leafs spent like crazy and still couldn't break through, and after the lockout they had made one playoff appearance in 11 years, which in the parity-heavy NHL is almost impossible.

And it's especially so given the proclivity of NHL players to have non-monetary incentives to go to certain teams, and the fact that like half the league grew up as Leafs fans.

The Hawks were bad on purpose. The Leafs have been trying. Both are amazing stories. Perhaps the Leafs will have a similarly happy ending, though hopefully not this year.

Yeah. Especially since the Flames have lost like 25 or something straight games on Anaheim's home ice.

I always enjoy a quick exit for Montreal and the fan implosion that follows but Lundqvist being strong enough to get New York through.

This Wild/Blues series should be fun to follow.

Off to a good start - who does Jake Allen think he is right now?

Oh that was an incredible play to tie it up, great passing

EDIT: And to answer your question since a stinker against Anaheim in early March he's put up a 0.939 SV%... Pretty locked in.

Wow, Allen stood tall and Tarasenko wiggled his way through and was lucky enough the puck skidded to a teammate.

Looking forward to the Hawks tonight.
