Solid effort. 10 threes. Hit the boards in the 2nd half.

Watched on score updates on computer, not TV. Must say, I think the team has met or exceeded expectations 4 out of 5. I can live with that. In fact, I like it!

So, Blackhawks going into the third period 2 - 1 up on the Lightning.
That said, can't wait for the highlight recap, and it better be more than 5 minutes!!

Can't remember the last time I felt so comfortable watching/listening to the first 5 games of the season as I am now. Very refreshing!!

Thumbs up. Could have picked up two more baskets had we didn't share the minutes, but it wasn't necessary at all. Good on ya, Illini.

Does this win hurt our tournament chances?

Really irrelevant to tournament chances but the state of our program with many young players and new additions really leaves little margin for error IMO, so I'd take a scrimmage opportunity before WF and 2 critical B1G games coming up.

Brad Underwood: Got exactly out of that what we wanted. In retrospect, very good defensively.

Underwood: Augustana thoroughly whipped us on the offensive glass. You can imagine what our halftime speech was. Leron Black getting shut out in first half won't do.

Underwood: Probably shows Kipper's importance to us that we didn't rebound well. Only five minutes in 1H

Underwood: Finke was aggressive. AJ was good again. He just does the simple things.

Underwood: Frazier had some moments throughout the game.

Underwood: Great to see Mark Alstork with 5 assists and get going and make shots.

Underwood: Frazier has the ability to take us to another level. With that has to come the mental approach. Defensively tonight, he was dialed in.

Underwood: About making the simple plays for Trent Frazier. I'm not going to be satisfied with Trent for a while because he has the ability to be a special-type player.

Underwood: I've not worried for one second about shooting threes. It was a matter of us shooting them in rhythm and shooting the ones we shoot in practice, in flow.

Underwood: By playing aggressive, our perimeter defense becomes our best post defense.

(THIS WILL BE A KEY ALL SEASON.)

Underwood: "If you guys have noticed, I've coached them pretty hard, even through the wins. I believe in that."

Underwood: Augustana never quit. They kept doing what they do. We still haven't done that yet.

Underwood: "Michael is a good player. He's a very capable player." He gets in trouble when he tries to do things he can't do, "Like when he dribble-drives it and tries to act like Curly Neal."

Underwood: Finke "is an elite shooter. He's one of the best shooters not just in the Big Ten but in the country."

Underwood on Te'Jon Lucas: "I still think he's finding his way in our system."

Underwood: We need to get better offensively so I can scheme when people throw things at us. Very vanilla again tonight.

Given that Iowa also played today and made 27 FTs we are not going to be No. 1 in total FTs made.

Remember the days, under Weber, when we would fail to shoot a single FT?

Look at this gem...

Correct... but given that Augustana is really Div. 3, that statistic gets a little murkier.

Before today, I had been thinking we have only seen the bigs in the pinch post. Was gonna post about it in the pregame thread. Today, we “pushed” for the first time and got some guards in there. The second cutter a couple possessions in a row pushed the big out of the HP. The original high post guy became the new cutter 2, and the original cutter 2 became the new high post guy.

It’s basically just an offensive switch by either cutter to take over the pinch post. Truly positionless because the original pinch post has to finish the cut and then becomes a perimeter guy. A great way to confuse a defense or move a weak defender to a position they’re not comfortable in.

Well when you score 33 points, who needs free throws?

I remember watching that game, and how terrible it was to lose a game like that at home as the ranked favorite. Looking at the box score again though it just seems unreal. 17-15 at halftime? What? How was that even possible?

That was legitimately the worst game I've ever watched in my life. I wish I could delete it from my memory.

Same chart shows us as #20 in offensive rebounds and #23 in turnovers forced. Not bad for a team whose front court is seen as a problem.

Our guards are rebounding at an insane rate.
